Hello All:
My FNC looks like it has a muzzle device and also a nut that maybe snugs up against it
Am I correct that it has a left hand thread so that would be "righty loosey"?
It doesnt budge. Maybe 25 years and maybe loctite is securing it.
I was going to put a hobby torch to it and unscrew it.
I will post pictures so it may shed some light on it
I want to get an adapter 9/16x24 to 1/2x28 and use a really efficient
brake on the rifle

Yes, they are left hand threaded, so they unscrew clockwise. They were applied after the barrel was painted and some are very tight because of this. I've had some require >200# of torque to remove, even with heat. Basically, you need to make a barrel vise grip for it and use a long cheater on a properly fitted wrench to avoid potential damage. You also need to have a very secure vise mount. Every now and again I get one that "only" requires 125-150# of force. I do not recommend gripping the receiver in a vise as you can bend it trying to remove the flash hider.

At the price and availability of FNCs, maybe best to not change it and risk damage.
