  • Hello Mr Pine,

You are out of mail space so I replied here.

JB is strong and easier but I like to silver solder. I EASY, lowest melting, silver solder, the kind for jewelry working.

Here is how I soldered the tabs:.
    1. Sand/clean both areas to be soldered. (back of mag and the bottom of tab)
    2. Clamp the back of the mag to an anchor/vice/steel fixture with front extending in the air.
    3. Brush flux to both prepped areas.
    4. Measure the distance from the feed lips and mark location of the tab.
    5. Place tab on location mag tube for soldering.
    6. Apply small 3 - 1mm x 1mm bits of silver solder around but next to the tab.
    7. Use propane torch to apply a little heat around the tab to dry the flux.
    8. Once flux is dry, apply heat to the inside of mag tube, under the tab.
    9. Once solder flows, direct heat to top of tab until solder flows under the tab.
    10. Let cool until solder solidifies.
    11. Sand blast.
    12. Parkerize.
    13. Oil the finish.
