Is there a drop in 22 cal. complete upper for a M16A1, that is reliable and doesn't require any modifications to the lower?
Thanks,

I’ve had excellent results with the CMMG .22 kits. I assembled my own upper, but I believe they sell them complete.

The DPMS 22 uppers but they arw no longer in production.

If you can find one blackdog still makes mags and i forget the maker of the spare parts but i bought all that too when ni bought my upper.

Never needed the spare parts but ya know better to have then........

Anyways tbe dpms upper is 1:18 twist and starts life as a 18 inch upper free float tube bull barrel.

I've seen guys chop them right down to 4.5 inches and still work...

It is also the quitest 22 repeater i own suppressed.

Complete CMMG upper worked 100% for me - very reliable setup.
It has been ~8yrs since I last used it, though...

I seem to recall there was something odd about the bolt setup,
but I don't recall exactly what it was off the top of my head...

Built or buy a cmmg upper using the 22lr barrel and the bolt combo. Use the auto sear kit that comes with the metal anti bounce weight as the plastic forward assist adapter will not run right in my experience in f/a.

For mags get the bettermag adapter and run smith and wesson m&p15-22 mags. They have been far more reliable to me and you can get the 50 round drums with that tower on them. You also get a working last round bolt hold open that works as a normal one does.

I grabbed a banshee .22 Cmmg upper. Works great. It is Ammo sensitive. Blazer worked very well. My old stock umc jammed endlessly

It’s a blast to shoot

Try the CCI ar tactical ammo. I've shot a lot of bricks of it through mine without issue.

So I'm a little confused, with the complete Banshee upper do you have to change any fire control parts in the lower receiver, or just put the upper on and head to the range?

Banshee doesn’t need new fire controls. Plug and play

Better mag well adapter makes Smith & Wesson drums fit tight . Ive seen others post that the smith drums still work without it but not tightly

Which Banshee version?

Do the .22 kits / bolt CMMG uses for these have the chamber insert or the other kind? Presume no insert.

Stainless kit or parkerized?

I wouldn’t get a complete upper because I’d want a 4.5” barrel to keep bulk pack ammo subsonic. I do like the chrome coated kits for easy cleaning. If shooting full auto you’ll need a trip. I also use the anti bolt bounce weight in my setup.

This is the bcg/bbl kit I used and it runs great.

+1 I run the same setup, also runs great. I always run it with a suppressor.

Yeah Battering ram NIB, that one'll work. I just don't care for CMMG's rails. You'll want to be able to get to the threads on the bbl to clean them. I use a hogue tube for this purpose...it just screws on and off at the bbl nut. https://www.hogueinc.com/tactical-rifles/ar15/forends/carbine/ar-15-m-16-carbine-free-float-forend-with-overmolded-gripping-area-black

A more elegant solution might be a Fortis Switch rail. https://fortismfg.com/switch/switch-556-rail-system-6-ML?limit=100

You'll want to make sure your can fits the ID of whatever forend you are using.

My silencer is a sparrow. Fits nice. I can get to the threads

I prefer to buy their upper complete vs parts because I want the Cmmg warranty and help to get it running had it not run

I like the upper very much. Perfect to me

That flash can Was cranked on there

I think that day we ran 8 drums full. Only 1-2 duds . No jams due to the upper
