JoeBee, It's good to hear you found an UZI, and hope you enjoy shooting it for many years. The prices are high now, but are likely to seem low a few years from now! I thought $7,000 was a lot when I bought my Vector 4 years ago. There is a lot of good information in this forum's library and past threads to review while waiting for the transfer. I transferred my last machinegun to a local dealer who had a range, so was able to shoot it while waiting for it to be transferred to me. Several vendors have parts kits and magazines at relatively low prices - you may want to stock up on magazines and ammo while waiting. I generally use 25-round magazines, but the 32-round mags function perfectly in my gun as well.

You may be able to find a Group/Vector in the 13K range. As far as RR vs registered bolt, some RR have a blocking bar and some don't. In fact, I have a RR conversion inbound with a blocking bar and slotted bolt. That gun will sell in the 10K range. The biggest drawback to a gun with blocking bar is the fact you cannot run caliber conversions. If that isn't important, why not buy the least expensive Uzi you can find. They all have resale value regardless of configuration. The "better" the gun, or should I say more desirable, the higher the price upon resale. I too would not promote buying a NIB gun and then shooting it ..but that is my opinion only. Others may differ.

When I got my uzi, magazines were $35 each. There's been a tidal wave of German surplus uzi stuff that's probably getting close to ending. It's all the same as the IMI stuff. For $400, you can get three lifetimes of uzi mags.

http://www.robertrtg.com/store/pc/50-PACK-IMI-UZI-MAGS-WITH-RUST-163p2818.htm

My brother split one of these with me. Only 3 magazines had any rust, and it was just light surface rust. For shooter mags, this is an awesome deal. Parts such as lowers and top covers are worth getting a couple extra. Barrels are expensive and hard to find, but they last forever.

Again great information and good ideas. I have been looking into a suppressor, mags and ammo. Also thinking of sending it to John Andrewski in NH to give it the once over and tweaking unless there is someone recommended closer to MI that any of you might know?

^ no real need for a once over check really. Mailing Nfa stuff around sucks and is expensive. There are various rules depending on the carrier you use. The rules and insurance policies get weird. I only ship nfa when I have no other choice.

When the Uzi lands at your local dealer set a date to go shoot it with him. Bring several different types of mag and ammo for testing. Shoot away. If no problems and the visual on the gun is good then you are set. Check out the sticky article on Uzi troubleshooting in this sites' reference library.

My local class 3 dealer is very knowledgeable. I am having the gun shipped to him when the time comes so perhaps he can check it out. I tried to buy from him but he sells his NFA items faster than it comes in and he couldnt find me anything that wasnt over priced.. I will purchase the suppressor from him and take it from there, thank you for the advice

^ then you are set! Your receiving dealer is the same as who you'd have check the gun out. Easy! You'll enjoy your Uzi. They are sturdy as hell.

How's the suppressed uzi barrel nut working out? Being totally NIB sure guaranteed everything was in spec didn't it?

Guess I should be pretty amazed my 2nd rate used crappy IMI RR had no problems attaching the Octane barrel nut.

Some of these guys have been in the NFA game for several decades. When they give advice, newcomers (anyone who hasn't been in the game for an entire year yet for example) would do well to consider it.

Yep what boofus said.

Just an update, I submitted the transfer paperwork on 01/16/2017. Today, 06/20/2017, I called NFA Branch to check on progress and was told it was "pending". It is my understanding that "pending" means the paperwork has been entered into the system, the check has been cashed and the paperwork is processing . If anyone else wants to call to check status of their transfer call 304 616 4500, have your serial number at hand and follow the prompts. My wait was less than 3 minutes.

I am hearing that the usual wait time is from 7 months to 11 months. Does anyone have a better idea what to expect?

10-12 months is about what it takes these days. NFA Branch is still working through that avalanche of forms from right before 41P went into effect. Plus it can take ATF up to 4 weeks to mail the approved form when they are done with it.

to each his own!......losing that $2k per gun means nothing to me........my FAs will look minty forever.....buying used wont get me that....most are full of marks,scuffs,scratches......it all depends how anal/fussy you are....i dont like a dented/scratched car.....i dont like a gun thats been tossed in the back of a pickup and scuffed to hell....$2k on a $15k purchase is nothing to get NIB.......depends on your financial position and how much you care about your guns(what they look like).....my Glock 19 i bought 24 years ago with 10,000 rounds through it now--looks like new.......most police Glocks i see for sale for -$150 less than new price look like hell.......

what % of NIB guns dont work?

LOL. Guess we know the answer now: at least 1

I can account for 4, including his. Cannot account for one that actually works yet.

Yes, I'm aware there are more than 4 Uzis in the world, but I'm probably at 8 for 8 in my lifetime. One day.

I waited from the day before the new ruling took effect until last week for my Form 4 living Trust RR Vector Uzi. Picking it up when I get back to the USA. So excited.

They are very efficient about cashing the check. That's where the efficiency ends. Yes, pending means your gun is in the system. What did you end up buying?

When you call to check the status, it really depends on who picks up the phone. The first time I did it the guy asked for the serial number. I paused, looking for where it was on the form and he hung up on me.

One time they lost the form and I had to get a certified copy. Kind of pissed me off because you don't get the $200 tax stamp on the certified copy. I paid for that stamp and I should get it.

One thing you can do during The Wait is to buy mags, accessories and ammo. Probably the best thing to do is put it out of your mind and try not to think about it. Hope for a good Christmas.

Here's my uzi story -- I had just finished a high pressure job that lasted a year and decided to reward myself with my first machine gun. It was going to be a full size Vector uzi. There's this dealer in Florida who is doing a group buy from Vector. $2750 for a NIB Vector uzi. So I send him the money. About a week or so later, Vector sells out of full size uzis and the price jumps $1000. So I go back and forth emailing the dealer and get the serial number. I arrange a transfer to my in-state dealer who is very helpful with this process. I wait several weeks and nothing happens. So I email the Florida dealer -- what's going on? Over the next several weeks it's one excuse after another. My FFL expired and BATF forgot to renew it. I'm working really long hours at a new job and can't make it to the Post Office. Then he says, how about I refund your money? So he's trying to stall, refund my money and sell it for $4000. I go to my dealer and tell him this story and he says 'I'll call this fucker and straighten this out". I don't know what he said, but whatever it was, it worked -- the gun showed up in three weeks.

I send all the paperwork to the Sheriff in Fairfax County for his signature. I wait five weeks and get the unsigned forms back in the mail. Please fill out the enclosed survey. It asks if I own a gun safe, have children in the house, are a member in a paramilitary organization, blah, blah, blah. I fill it out and send it back and wait another six weeks to get the signed forms. So now, five months from when I decided to buy this thing am I finally ready to send it off the BATF. The BATF part was the easiest part of the whole process. Came through in 7 short months.

It's July 3. I load up a bunch of mags and head over to the FFL's to pick up my gun. There's a range just down the road. He insists on going through NICS before I take possession of it. Crap. I always get turned down by fucking NICS. Sure enough I get turned down and we have to wait for a call back. We wait and wait and finally he calls them back. Our computer is down -- try again tomorrow. Oops, I mean the day after tomorrow because tomorrow is the 4-th of July and we're closed. I drive home empty handed.

On July 5-th I get the gun, get the Virginia Machine Gum Permit filled out and notarized and head to the range where I promptly shot the floor learning what open bolt means.

In the year that has passed, I got my wife pregnant and she had the baby. So I conclude that it's quicker to create a human being than it is to buy a machine gun.

Yes, that would have been unfortunate. I bet there's a lot of long stories out there.

I ended up with a full size RR gun converted by Fleming in very good condition. It is a real sweetheart to shoot, I can see why you folks love these guns.
I have already purchased mags, ammo, cases, instructional videos on servicing the firearm and how to use it "the Israeli way". Haven't watched either yet

Thanks for the post, I got a big chuckle out of it.

Forgot to say is is a Model B

The model As and Bs are both good guns. You probably won't have any issues except with the usual wear items: worn barrel nut catch, wobbly ejector, or worn extractor. Nothing that can't be fixed by replacing a $10 part or following the how-to guide in the library here.
