I am going to place my semi annual order for primer, powder and rifle bullets and had a quick question. Does anybody use or have tried wolf small rifle primers? I was planning on ordering 20k, but don't want to be dissapointed and stuck with them. Accuracy is not really an issue as long as they work. This is just machinegun ammo. Before anybody says "just buy a few and try them out" it is not an option. I buy in bulk only to save money on hazmat, shipping.

I'll be loading some Wolf small rifle primers tomorrow and shooting them on Monday morning. I'll post my results Monday afternoon or evening.

Well, my reloading of .223 didn't happen, I forgot the box of brass when I left the house in the morning.:bang

I'll try and reload some today and post the results. Most accounts I've read have been positive so I'm not expecting any surprises.

5k is a case. You still have to pay $40 in hazmat. Midway has, had them

Everything I have read about the wolf primers has been good. I have heard that these are the same primers that PMC was importing. People are saying that their consistency rivals some of the best domestic primers. Also that the cup is pretty hard, and great for use in semis and autos.

There was a writeup on 6mmbr about bench rest guys loading with them and having quite impressive results.

A little quote from 6mmbr.com:

(with regards to use in .308)"We wish we could say something definitive about primers--but the truth is both Federals and CCIs are winning their share of matches. Federal 210m, and CCI BR2s have both proven accurate with all the most popular propellants for match ammo. We can say that if you have experienced issues with cratering and primer piercing, go with the CCIs. They have a harder cup. Among other primers, WLRs are used in Black Hills match ammo and they perform admirably. Russian primers are the newest thing to hit the market, and by all indications they work as well or better than the best domestic primers (so long as the rather hard Russian cups are firmly seated to proper depth). Note, Russian primers are currently distributed by PMC and retailed in PMC boxes. However, PMC will not import them after the first of the year. AccurateShooter.com has been informed that a large, well-known foreign ammunition company will take over importation of the Russian primers and they should be readily available by the second quarter of 2006."

"PRODUCT UPDATE--Russian Primers: Following up on last week's report on Russian Primers, we've received some feedback from some readers. The good news is that more user tests have confirmed impressively low ES and SD numbers with the Russians. However, one of our Australian readers tested the standard Small Rifle primers and found them someone prone to cratering with the hot charges often used by 6PPC and 6BR shooters. The Magnum Small Rifle primers worked better: "If you [use] light bench rest bullets with powders like Benchmark and faster the standard PMC primer is great but if you want to use heavy bullets like 107gr Sierras use the Magnum primers. I found the [PMC] primers to be the best value for money and they performed as well in large standard and Magnum as Federal and CCI--Wild Bill". For 6XC shooters using the large rifle primers, it appears they hold up fine, but David Tubb cautions that they need to be seated firmly into the pocket for good ignition. As another user recently found that the Green (no-tox) primers seem soft, we recommend Red Box for use in 6BRs and other relatively high-pressure cartridges.PMC Russian Primers cost about $15.60 per thousand from SpecialtyAmmo.com (hazmat extra)."
