im guessing everyone thinks id do this to make it "tactical", this is NOT the case, im going for 'practical' and comfort.. those tri rails are just retarded and would serve me absolutely no purpose on a mosin nagant.. my AK? sure.. my mosin? no..
i think im going to do it

Why not.

I just found out that dumb nuts I sold a perfectly good Japanese Arasaka to 12 years ago (jungle carbine with everything except the crest) turned it into a shortened manlicher stocked POS.

Chopped the barrel short, changed out the stock, removed the rear sights(the flip up aircraft sights) and replaced them with a peep sight, ground down the whole crest area to clean it up and then refinished it to make it look better.

I am disgusted now.

And to top it off he never ran more than the one box of 7.7 that I gave him then through it. And lost the brass to boot.

And the finish on the gun is crappy and the wood looks like a beaver carved it and a blind man finished it.

AHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!

And this last weekend when he showed it to me he actually asked how much I thought it might be worth now.

I thought he was collecting it for historic value.

As for your little addition to your gun. Go for it. Its small, reversible and if it helps you to shoot it then run with it.

Curious, did he think the modifications helped the value or was he at least smart enough to know he hurt the value (significantly)?

Awful story by the way.

It broke my heart to see what it eventually ended up being.

It wasn't some premium collectors weapon. It has the crest ground off and the wood wasn't mint but it wasn't broke or cut up either. It fired GREAT and was as accurate as any other WWII weapon.

I think he got scared or something with the past weapons ban. I sold it to him for like 100 bucks even the week before that ban. Just so he could say he had a long gun. I didn't ever think he would do anything like that to it. Never in a million years did I think that. He never mentioned the gun again in fact, so I thought he was just holding on to it. The bayonet is even gone.
