Well, which is it - or is something else altogether? Feel free to post pics and give your opinions. You may be helping me decide on my next purchase. :cool

I'm looking for a good all-around handgun, not a target pistol.

Sig P220. I love it. Carried mine on duty back when I worked for the Sheriff's Dept.

Until two weeks ago I would of said my sig p220. I just purchased a sw1911 and I love it right out of the box a great shooter, like the Sig but with that classic 1911 style. A beautiful weapon.:heavy :heavy

Colt 1911. The original, and still the best. :D

My first handgun was a 1911 (still have it!) and have owned many over the years. My current favorite -- and my fave handgun -- is this .45 Special Combat Government that came out of Colt's Custom Shop more than a decade ago. Sweet trigger, incredible workmanship, drills tacks, and it just keeps going and going ... utterly reliable.

The photo shows the whole package -- Marvel match .22 RF upper (with this one it's more accurate than I can shoot) with a Gemtech Outback can, for when silence is useful.

Together, they can do anything you need to do with a handgun.

One more vote for the SIG P220. I've loved this gun from day one and had zero malfunctions using any and all ammo. A real quality gun. If you like Glocks, the model 21 is worth a look, and it's one I would purchase. I personally just can't see putting so much money into a 1911 type pistol to make it reliable. I feel they should be good to go right out of the box but that's often not the case. I know I'll get flamed for that comment, but just expressing my opinion.

The RIA .45s are a great value for the money

I bought 5 of them when they were $285. I carry one regularly using Remington Golden Saber ammo and can't see why people spend hundreds sometime thousands on other 1911 type pistols.

These are by no means target pistols, but I'll gaurrantee you that I can hit my target from any reasonable pistol range.

Many people spend way too much money on guns they never shoot enough to get good with. Accessorizing a gun is no substitute for range time shooting the gun you carry in your holster. I shoot what I carry and carry what I shoot.

All the bells and whistles will never make up for lack of practice.

My favorite .45, in the winter I carry a Kimber CDP II Compact. It has the alloy frame so its super nice to carry, and is a tack driver. Was it worth the $930 I paid for it new.??? I think so, it's one gun I won't be selling anytime soon. My other is my HK Tactical, I did have it for sale, but I'm thinking about keeping it now. It's a super nice handgun. Though again, your talking around $1k. If your interested in a Kimber, I think that there was a fellow on AR15.com doing a group buy.

Cookie, you can have my LNIB (I believe its unfired) Colt CDR .45 80 Series for $535 shipped. A full length guide rod has been installed, otherwise it is stock. Case, 2 mags, all paperwork. I can shoot you some pics if your interested. It was a consignment gun at my range that I picked up for a collector, but damn Colt, they began making them again. :)

Anything 1911 style. I have 2 SV's, 3 Springfields, and a Kimber. I love them all. The nicest looking one has to be the Kimber. The coolest and best shooting are the SV's. I had one built in 9mm with a commander slide. I shoot hot ass ammo out of it and love the gun. I have always loved .45 caliber. For some reason it just seems to be a smooth shooting caliber to me. Especially on a 1911 frame. Kinda soft and controllable slide action.

I have a .45 Glock also but I can't stand that gun. Reliable as hell, always goes off when you pull the trigger, lightweight, but I just never cozied up to it. Kinda wish I had bought it in 9mm instead but don't really know if it would make a difference to me. Anyway, it is my nightstand, take along on fishing trips, load up with rat shot .45 cal Glock. My 1911's are for when I am feeling really serious.

If anyone wants a 1911 I would always recommend they go with Kimber. They are fantastically accurate and well made guns.

Cookie;
Its obvious from your picture you are no longer a "spring chicken". Time to join the rank of older, more experienced guys that have learned that John M. Browning got it right in the 1911.

Its shoots that big ole bullet at a decent speed in a classic style. 1911 mechanics can put a trigger job on these that truly are like "breaking a glass rod". Whether you pick a cheaper RIA or top of the Les Baer/Wilson Combat etc, you will love it. Accessories are out there for anything you want to do to one...or just shoot it box stock.

One last thing...if God had intended us to shoot Glock's, he would have had J.M. Browning invent it.

Glock 21, which takes a lot of abuse (I ride a Motorcycle at work) and keeps on shooting.

What the hell does that mean! :roflmao

Believe me, the name "John Moses Browning" is revered in my house. Just ask my boy. ;)

I have owned, and carried on duty in years past Colts, Siggs, S&W and Glock. I seem to keep coming back to the 1991 and it's varients. Currently a Wilson Combat, that I don't believe I will ever part with!!!
