Hey guys making a small survival kit to go in my truck and to carry with me but whats a good survival gun? I would like it to be a revolver but whats a decent caliber 22,32,38,9mm,ect.? I would like it to be affordible too. To start I seen a H&R Victor on gunbroker caliber 32 SW long but what kind of damage can I do with that? Please post ideas and I am putting everything in maybe a water tight army box or tool box.

I guess it depends on what you are surviving. A .22 is simple and you can carry alot of rounds in a small bag. If that's the route you go I would prefer a double action.

I know it would probly be one of the LAST calibers I'd want.

Maybe a 9 shot .22/.22mag revolver??

Well, I'll say that I collect .32 revolvers. I've got big ones, little ones, shiny ones, dull ones, ugly ones and pretty ones. What I don't have is one that I would chose as a survival gun. Don't get me wrong, the .32 is a great cartridge for plinking, target shooting and small game hunting, but in a survival situation, it's a terrible choice.

I would tend to agree that a .22 of some kind would be the most versatile, light weight ammo, and enough power to hunt small game, but without too much noise. enough to defend yourself if (and only if) you have good shot placement. The ammo is also cheap, and the .22 is going to be easier to re-suply than a lot of other calibers.

Thanks alot guys I look at a .22 revolver instead.Sorry but the 1911 is a little out of my price range. While in the subject of survival what would be a good rifle? I heard the Henry AR7's jam and fall apart if shot too much.

Pump Shot Gun, Look at the options. High and Low base Birdshot, Buck Shot, Split Shot and Slug just to name a few.

+1 on 10/22 Takedown. Hard to find right now, but really an awesome gun.

For a revolver, LCR in .22

Rifle: AK-47 or decent clone ( I know - the AR-fans will scream, but from personal experience, even a junk AK will keep running long after an AR has broken down)
Shotgun: 12 Ga Rem 870/Winch pump
Pistol: any 1911 for personal defense & a Ruger Mark II/III for food
Optional: Uzi/HK subgun
Plenty of ammo & reloading supplies for all calibers.
With that combo, you should be in good shape for just about anything long enough. Most people never consider the fact that in a true SHTF scenario, you will either be dead, or "battlefield pickups" will fill the void.

Thanks guys for your suggestions and ideas.Might go with a Marlin 795 or Ruger 10/22 carbine and maybe a Henry lever action 22. And please post other ideas of survival guns. Hey even thought of maybe a VMAC 45 but what kind of accuracy could I get and what damage can be done with 45 acp? Could it kill a panther or wolf?

well any caliber will kill anything with the right shot placement.....the problem is getting the target to stand still! If those kind of critters are your concern...them a good 12 gauge would be your best bet....u cant go wrong with an 870!

I guess it depends on what you are surviving.

Glock in 9mm or 45 with 22LR kit for general. (big hand cannon if you live in AK)
AK, AR.....for shooting events.
Combo gun for game gathering
Shotgun for everything everything else.

With the availability of ammo right now a good survival gun is anything that you already own ammo for as you just can't go down to WM and get ammo like you used to. I'm set on ammo and would just grab whatever is handy at the time for what I need it for.

How about a 12 gauge pump shotgun(870 or 500), Ruger 10/22, some kind of premium 9 mm (HK/Sig/CZ) and an AK in 7.62x39! AR's are not much of a survival weapon.

WOW Thats a cool rifle! So that's what a M6 is. Sorry StooperZero didn't know what exactly they where. Does anyone know who makes them or where to get one that would be perfect.
