I tried the Pam 2 mags. At the time the shockwaves weren't out yet. I converted some Madsen 50 mags that I bought for about $5 each. I have about 30 now.

I dropped the ball and never ordered these. Fast forward 2.5yrs later, are the ZMag 30’s still the go-to steel mag?

Thanks all

Depends on the platform...
If you are using Richard's new Versa-X upper, you have lots of options. I prefer the Glock 33 rounders (I know it surprised me too!).
If you are using an old school Mac, get the shockwave Zmags.

Whatever you do, remember what Tom (VegasSMG) used to say, "these are the good old days." Buy whatever you can afford.
I've got a pile of Pam2, Suomi, Glock, Zmag, ZmagS, HK, AR, etc mags. We will sooner or later be looking back at now and kicking ourselves for not ordering more.

Have you looked at current prices for the Lage .22LR kits or the Coffee Freak tungsten bolts? Through the roof! I wish I'd bought a bunch!

I run an unmodified 1985 SWD M11/9 lower on one of Lage’s Max11 Mk1 uppers (I do like the length of the newer K Mk2’s, but also like the weight of the original Mk1’s):

I had a Lage .22 conversion in an original upper, it never ran right and I sold it at a loss many years ago :(

Thankfully, I’m not the only one Keeping it OG Lage.
They don’t make them like they used to. Here’s mine, I’m going to be running it in the upcoming Hernando Sportsman’s Club (FL Sub Gun match).

As for mags, I use shockwave and the old zytel mags.

Zmags is the only metal mag there is, it's the one u want.
There are various others. Recon ordnance PAM-2 converted mags work well and are still easy to find and plentiful, then there’s the original “factory” CMP manufactured M11/9 mags. In the early 90s CMP manufactured some M11/9 steel magazines. CMP was the magazine subcontractor for RPB and SWD. I have a handful of the CMP mags, they work ok but usually need a little fitting at the mag catch to lock in positively.

They were made using the same mag body as the original CMP manufactured RPB M10/9 32rd mag, pinched down to single feed with an aluminum follower. They’re rare.

Zmags are the most popular current production magazines, but there have been various other steel M11 mags over the years. There were also some converted Madsen mags for the 11/9 and the M10/9 single feed, they suck and don’t fit well.

Just to keep the conversation going: What are the best M10/9 magazines these days? Got back into the Mac world last year with one and it came with two mags, would like a few more reliable ones while I wait for the Versa.

M10/9 mags are a crapshoot. There are some new mags out there that are decent, double feed.. Parkerized finish, supposedly made on the “original RPB tooling”.. but this makes no sense to me as the old RPB subbed out all their mags to CMP, so if anything it’s “original CMP tooling” but the new mags don’t look like the old RPB/CMP mags, more like a knock off of the MAC walther M10/9 mags. They work.. but the original vintage CMP mfg RPB mags are better. the MAC walther M10/9 mags are the best, but they’re very expensive, sometimes selling for over $300 a piece. The new manufactured “RPB” mags can be had for around $60 and the original RPB/CMP mfg Cobray marked mags are around $100-$150.

Just ordered a 6 pack of Zmags, thanks all. As soon as spring comes around I hope to test them out running them hard at the range

Only have a sample of (2) original RPB mags and (2) new production mags(similar pattern to the Walther MP mags). The new production to me seem more robust than the RPB variants, with stronger springs - and run FA/SA reliably.

Craftsmanship wise, the Walther mags are clearly superior to the others and I expect they will retain decent value as a collectible item. They even feel different, heavier?

However, with the new generation of ergonomic uppers which use current production, affordable and well proven magazines (Glock, CZ, and maybe even HK), I see these OEM M10/9 magazines perhaps not increasing too much in value in the long term. JMO.

I won’t be able to run my 30rd zmags for a few months, but in the meantime are the current production zmags still requiring breakin? I see older threads saying the followers need passes along the bolt, depressing the follower with a ruler etc. in the past, and I have plenty of time to break them in.

It's easy to tell. You put them in, you pushed the bottom of the mag up with your thigh and see if the bolt will go home

My popular 30 round stick mag is a 50 round quad-stack "Coffin" mag loaded to 30 rounds as the last 20 rounds are virtually impossible to push in, even with the loading tool. The mags are very sturdy, as one would expect for war materiel.

MHO, YMMV, etc.
