What is the Mini-Uzi SMG market like these days?

I have a Mini-Uzi now and want a SMG version. I am not concerned with finding a factory Pre-Sample that has been reclassified but, I also want one that is basically factory correct. What is availability like today and what should I expect to pay?

I am not looking to pay above retail from those dealers selling to Doctors and Lawyers as customers that don't know they are being financially fleeced.

TIA,
Sid

Hi Sid,

I'll give it a try. I can be wrong so don't beat me up too badly.

What you are looking for doesn't exist.

The Vector/Group cut-down full size is the same size but not factory correct as the ribs on the sides are not right.

The Uzi mini carbine was not imported until 87. The only conversions on those that mere humans can own are registered sears (married to the receiver if you want factory correct feet on the bolt) or married bolt conversions (again the feet issue).

You excluded reclassified pre-samples so those are out.

I may be overlooking other sources so others please chime in to correct me.

Enjoy,

K2

Correct. Most are listed 30-37k right now for vectors and bolt guns. But for the most part I don’t see them selling quickly at those prices. You’ll prob be in the 28-32k area for a reg bolt gun or a vector.

If you’re interested in a bolt gun and leaning that way, I make some bolts that work in all 3 semi auto models. Mini micro and full size. I could have another one available soon if you had any interest

I bought a mini (vector) as my first ever mg in 2022. Spare parts included for 21K from a 1919a4.com forum member. The market seems to be at around 28-30 for a vector. Do you have a full size uzi? I shoot my full size at least twice as much as my mini

I have an SBR Mini-Uzi and like the small form factor. As a full-auto, I think it would be a blast to shoot but it may be a bit fast for a novice.

I have run a full-auto MP-5 F-spec post-sample which was super sweet. With full-auto MP-5's running >$50K I just don't see one in my future. I do have an MP-5SD Semi headed my way though to sort of scratch the itch there.

I bought the mini first as I thought it would be blast. It's fast alright and the stock isn't very comfy on auto, plus parts like barrels/bolts are expensive. I personally don't think a FA mini uzi is worth the 30k. I think there are "better" options for that price point. Heck you're easily in M16 territory with that kind of coin. YMMV

Maybe buy a Mini/Micro bolt and use in whatever firearm you want? Although specific bolts may/may not be rare.. don't know. Regular UZI's are common. Beware of SBR/NFA regs when removing said registered bolt from/to host.

I'm aware of various issues of concern like "constructive intent" and similar stuff including single versus dual stamp guns, operational briefcases that are AOW if you do or don't own a firearm that fits them, and other issues. This isn't my first rodeo into the NFA world.

Both Uzi's are already registered so, stocks, barrels, etc. are not an issue for me if I move a registered bolt around. If I got an Uzi pistol, I would SBR it as well if I had a full-auto compatible bolt that fit it.

Yep, a full wooden stock on a full-size Uzi is nicer as well. The wire stock on a Mini-Uzi isn't going to be very comfy but, will definitely help on full-auto to stabilize things a bit. Like an underfolder AK-47, those stocks weren't built for comfort!

I'm rethinking things a bit as you are right. In this price range, an M-16 has a lot more flexibility in general. Never really warmed up to MAC's so, maybe I need to reconsider some classic WWII subguns.

Do you have a BarrelXchange Mini Heavy bolt? If I didn't have one, I would shoot my full size more. For me, I shoot the Mini like 4x more than my full size...but again, that is with the heavy bolt. If I didn't have heavy bolt, I would run the full size. I think I shoot the full size better but for me, the Mini is more fun. For years, I would run my Mini in SMG matches not because I shot it better but again because it was more fun and with the heavy bolt, I can still pull singles.

I don’t want to further muddy things, but regarding the M16 or MP5 clone, have you read up on the Super Safety? Obviously not the same thing, but for a ~$25-50k+ price difference, it presents an enticing “close enough” alternative for some. You indicate that you never warmed to the MACs, but the Lage Max-15 family is also a potential M16 substitute to consider. I shoot way, way more pistol caliber rounds than rifle, so the Max-15 is close enough to scratch my admittedly mild M16 itch. An M11/9 or M10/9 also does a decent job of playing the “mini-Uzi at home” role.

Is BarrelXchange still in business? It looks like their website has not been touched since 2019.
I bought a barrel and bolt from Troy maybe a year or so ago and am happy with it. He still does batch productions and posts on Uzitalk. You can message him through the forum.

I agree completely. My Mini and M11/9 are both much more fun to shoot with heavy bolts. The thing that I like better about the M11/9 is that you can put a Lage upper on it which allows the use of an optic.

I do have the mini heavy bolt. I ran it a few times and put it away, just made it feel “choppy” kind of like the lage 10/45 upper. I think it’s smoother when running full speed

I did a cycle rate experiment with my full size. After speeding it up as much as I could with buffers, I also found that the higher cycle rate felt smoother. With that I agree. However, when I put the gun on paper, with and without the buffers, using short bursts, the groups were much better with the slower cycle rate. I now shoot the full size as designed. I haven't tried it with my mini as it is a bolt gun, but have every reason to believe the same thing would hold true. I have even considered machining my registered mini bolt to mimic the barrel exchange heavy bolt.
YMMV!

Give the target experiment a try!!
