What got you interested in Uzis?

Watching the IDF during the Six Day War in the 60s got me interested and when I was old enough the Uzi was at the top of my list. Movies such as Dogs of War and Wild Geese only fanned the flames. Currently own a pre May DS made by IMI.

I wanted to buy a machine gun and it was one of the more affordable choices. Plus, for a lower end machine gun, it is very iconic. everyone knows exactly what an uzi is when they see it.

Growing up in the eighties I was fascinated with machine guns, a-team, Miami vice and so on. I even had a toy Uzi as a kid that made either semi or full auto noises. Wish I still had that! Still can’t believe I own real Uzi smg.

i have no idea what attracted me to it exactly....but it was my first FA purchase....so obviously when i thought of a machine gun i thought UZI

i would have preferred a Thompson first, but they were 2x the money......the UZI kinda fells in that sweat spot of mid price and Iconic

The history of the UZI and the fact that as a child there were plenty of UZi water guns Oh yeah, I could afford one. Actually I could have gotten an FNC for the same price at the time, but I had to have the UZI!!

One was made available to me, and I bought it immediately... the rest is history. I didn't go looking for her, she sought me out. I had no intentions of owning a UZI.

Like Sleepy though, I still can't believe I actually own one. Love to shoot it.

Little old lady walked into the gun store where I worked behind the counter.
Asked us if we would be interested in buying an Uzi back. I was the NFA/black rifle guy in the shop and told her maybe...let's see what ya got.
Yep, turned out to be a transferable IMI Model A that the store had manufactured under previous ownership pre '86 and it had been sitting in her closet for the last two years after her husband passed away.
I showed her online what current values were and made her an offer which she was thrilled to accept. Took care of the paperwork, sent it off to Vector to get completely redone, and have had it ever since.
Can't really have a respectable collection of full auto's without an Uzi in the mix now can you?

And I couldn't believe I was spending $2750 on a gun. No way I was going to lay down a whopping $4500 for an M-16.

I have to admit it was movies, in the 1970's there was a movie about the Raid on Entebbe, James Woods packing his Uzi at his parents house to go out on an operation.

Then there was The Wild Geese and of course Auhrnold in The Terminator...

When Action Arms Uzis became available in the 1980's, I had to have one.

My parents got me my first UZI at Toys R us back in the 80's. Also watched Terminator, Missing in action,movies. Man I missed those days.

In 1980, a buddy bought a Model A, It was a neat gun and all the rage at the time, used in all the movies, like the Wild Geese etc. I did not think much about it again.
In 1992, I deployed to Somalia with the 10th Mountain Division and we captured an FA Uzi. It was a mess, dirty, they used old motor oil for lube. I was one of the few familiar with the Uzi, so I cleaned it up and we shot it. It was great! We tried to get approval to bring it back for the Brigade or Division Museum, but the Brigade request was turned down and the gun was destroyed. So, sad. When I retired after 30 years in the Army, I bought an GI RR Uzi as my retirement present. Then a few years later, my buddy who was also retired Army asked me if I wanted to buy his Model A from 1980., he had it converted pre-86. So, I bought that one too. Of course, I had to do a double mag dump with an Uzi in each hand, who wouldn't?

As an industrial designer since 1971 I have always appreciated firearms for their form and function. The designs of Uziel Gal are superb in both criteria and I started by buying a NIB Model A. I always stored it with the display barrel as this was the "correct" configuration that matched the SMG. Since I lived in WA I never had what I REALLY wanted... full auto.
After 30 years we moved to AZ and my goal was to get the "Big 3": M16, UZI SMG, and a FA AK-47. First bought the M16 followed less than 12 months later by a NIB Vector full size SMG. (AK never happened) Two years later I found a private AZ sale for a Vector Mini SMG.
Today the Silver Bullit (Hose) is my only full auto and my favorite of all time.

You have nearly copied me. Transferrable IMI model A full size, then M16 a year later, then Vector Mini another year later. You have good taste!

Mine isn't a transferable.

But I still wanted it. After reading through some of the earlier replies, I do recall a lot of what was mentioned, so it's no surprise that I own one today. Albeit semiauto.
