Looking for pistols that have an optics cutout, good stocks available, and a front rail for a VFG that would make a good SBR. My Canik has the rail but no good stock options.

This one... that’s grandfathered as not being NFA

what's that?

Browning Hi-Power pre-WWII. Belgium made up to serial 47,000 and Inglis (pictured) made in Canada during the war which is any tangent. Plus a small batch of post war Muscat of Oman are exempt from NFA so long as they have original style stocks. These mentioned are all cut from the factory for use with stocks.

Broomhandle Mausers and some others got exempted too.

To me, the Hi Power is just a great pistol in general and having it exempted as SBR is a bonus.

How about the HK SP5?

If you are looking for a traditional pistol, the Glock MOS line would be a good choice...

Here's the Mauser pistol.
This one is a late production M30 (made in 1934) with many improvements in both design and materials over the original C96.
Think of the C96 as not only the first truly workable auto pistol but also as the first PDW

I'll see your Mauser and raise you the .44 Automag Carbine. Custom job by the guy who designed the Automag, Max Gera. Although I'd just get the 8.5" bbl Automag and add the stock, no need for a forearm.

I always have wanted to get a stock for my old Luger that has the cut for it. The rules seem confusing on if a reproduction is OK or not to be exempt from SBR.

Can't speak about Lugers but probably 90%+ of the Broomhandle Mauser stocks are repops.
I'm guessing here but if the pistol is originally cut for the stock and the attaching iron is an original part (but not necessarily original to the pistol) you're probably OK. The wood and the related bits are service parts.

yeah, what you want in a pistol that can be easily SBR, with a vertical grip and "optics ready" is a HK SP5K to make it into a HK MP5-K, that Z06 shows

Kinda depends on what you want, there's quite a bit of size difference between a Glock and an AR with a 12" barrel, yet both can be SBR'd.

Uncle Billy is right, ever since I saw my 7 y.o. nephew's G.I. Joe's MP5K PDW I knew I had to SBR my Zenith...
