Finally got the stamp for my Vector V51 SBR.

Submitted individual Form 1 through Silencer Shop on 11/14/2017
Check was cashed 12/7/2017
Approved 5/18/2018
Stamp in my hands 5/25/2018

So, about 6.3 months from start to finish; 5.5 months since check was cashed. Seems like a pretty quick turnaround, in ATF terms anyhow. Maybe they actually *are* speeding up a bit?

I have the Vector A2 stock, but I decided I wanted to try the A3-type collapsing stock first. I don't think the stock is going to be the most comfortable thing to shoot when shouldered, but it sure looks sweet. And when collapsed it's mighty short. :)

The A3 stock arrived from Vector in its original slate-grey finish, so I had Jayson at IGF refinish it with his Black Envirotech finish since it's closer to an original HK job. It's also a perfect match for the Vector finish. Also added one of IGF's 4-prong flash hiders since I wanted a different look than the original A2 birdcage-type device that was on there. Jayson refinished my CEMTE eons ago with the same finish, so I knew it would look good.

Now I just need to decide if I’m going to add an optic of some sort. I’m fiddling around with my current optics combos and may end up with a spare Aimpoint PRO in an AD68 mount. That might work on this SBR, though I might want to go with something a little smaller. But we shall see.

In the meantime, I’m glad I finally got the stamp. Just in time for the long Memorial Day weekend!

Cheers,

~ Greg ~

Looking good Greg!

I just got a PTR PDW (older version without the paddle mag release and rail) and really enjoy FA mag dumping that thing. Does your recoil rod telescope?

Yep, it does. I bought that A3-stock directly from Vector Arms so it would have the telescoping recoil rod modification. Looks like the same system the used on their fixed A2 stocks.

So if I were to SBR my HK91 and wanted to use my old HK A3 stock, it would need to be modified for a telescoping recoil rod? Do I have that right? What necessitates this mod?

I don't know if that's specific to the Vector pistols, or if that's just something about HK-types in general. My VZ51 pistol endcap has the telescoping rod, just like the full A2 stock and collapsing A3 stock use. Methinks we need to get someone who knows more about HKs in general to answer the question.

No, you could use a standard recoil rod if you chopped it to G3K size., If you chopped your HK91 to 'HK51' size (basically MP5 size, like in this thread), you'd need one. The super short front end means the bolt carrier has to get shortened, and the short bolt carrier is what requires the telescoping recoil rod.

What are the ballistics from that short barrel?

I haven't personally done any testing, but I found this article (take it for what it's worth) that shows unsurprising results as the barrel is cut down from 16" to 6", i.e. the velocity loss is quite noticeable:

https://rifleshooter.com/2016/02/30...-length-and-velocity-a-six-inch-308-bolt-gun/

As far as terminal ballistics? No idea. I did a quick search online but didn't come up with anything helpful (but lots of people have questions about it).
