called vector just now and asked about their 32 and 25 imi mags. they said....

25rnd imi parkerized are star marked and some are not marked.

32rnd imi painted are star marked?

question...the other threads said 32rnd mags are imi marked not star marked. vector said star marked only. is this kosher???

question...vector said 25rnd mags, some have no marks and a hand pick charge may apply to get only star marked. i asked are they new or excelent and vector said verygood.

i didnt like what i heard. can i get some feedback on any very resent orders received from any of you

I happened to be talking to Rex at Vector just yesterday and I had a number of questions to ask him. One of which was the 32 round mags that his web site says are IMI but the ones cookie saw at the creek were not marked. At that point Rex mentioned the star marked 32 round mags. I was quite surprised by that and told him that I had never heard of such a thing. He said that he thought they had been issues at some point to Israeli special forces. Anyway, he couldn't confirm for sure if they still had the 32's with the star and he said he'd check and get back to me. I was hoping to hear from him today but no word yet. If he has some, my intention was to get a few and try them out so I could report on the results to the members before everyone jumped on them.

We didn't talk about 25 round magazines and I don't really know what your second question is xm15e2s. Are you asking if the unmarked ones are really IMI? If that's the question, then here's my best guess: no, but possibly yes. It depends what you mean by "really IMI". What we typically refer to as the real IMI mags are the heavy duty mags with the thick folded seam on the back of the mag. Those seem to always be marked with a star. There are a lot of unmarked mags around that are what I consider the newer design with a smooth seam on the front or the back. We've always considered them after market and in general they don't work as well as the real mags, although some of them work very well. However, after my discussion with Rex yesterday, I'm beginning to wonder if at some point IMI might have quit making their own mags because the demand was so low and they may have been contracting out with Mec-Gar or others to produce some of the newer style (flat seam) mags that IMI would sell. That's my conjecture at this point and I'm trying to track down sources that could lend some insight. So it may be possible that there are some unmarked mags that were sold by IMI, but if they were, they weren't the old reliable design like the originals. I think the bottom line is still that the "real" IMI mags with the star are still the most reliable - and thus worth a little more.

I'll be posting more info when it's available.

The "Star" means IMI military issue. That means mostly 25 rounders. But there are 32's and maybe others. The "IMI" means made for civilian sales in the US. Most military issue were parked and don't run quite as well as the painted mags IMHO. But they are still good mags and in high demand and worth about $35 - $40. Karl.

The *real* IMI enamel 32rd mags are absolutely the best as Karl has indicated. FN (pre & post '94) & Glock (for the para-micro) are currently making magazines under IMI contract from sources in the IDF, I'm told. IMHO, the FN mags are just as good!
Hey, Cookie... post those IMI vs FN jpegs I sent ya.

I know a fellow who has a few New .45 IMI 16 rd mags for sale. He quoted me $45 each. Is that a good price?

A price, yes. A "good one", ummmm, NO! It's probably close to the norm or average. But I wouldn't jump at it personally. For the price of 45 16 rounders you'd be wise to just purchase the Grease Gun mag conversion offered by Chris. Karl.

The 32rd painted IMI advertised mags by Vector that I have received in orders this year are star marked 32rd painted mags. These have function flawlessly in Vector HR4332's. Would be willing to do a group purchase on them in quanties if there is enough interest to make it worth while for everyone.

My experience too. Just bought some more as recently as two weeks ago.

Montana_jeepn, I have to second Karl's advice. (10) IMI 45 mags $450. Grip conversion $300 + $100 for (10-15) grease gun mags = $50 less plus mags can be use in other firearms not to mention twice the capacity.

Supposedly the mag on the right is an FN mag but I don't see anything on it to identify it as such. What makes you say it's FN?

I would ask the same question for the simple reason that FN was an IMI authorized manufacturer and used the tool mark that is in the mag ID threads TMK. I'd want some real convincing proof of origin before I'd pay any extra $$$$ for them. Even if they run good, I'd still pay less for non factory and dealers know this. That's why many an unscrupulous dealer touts "contract" so quick and easily. Because most buyers don't know any better. Karl.
