How is the quality of the UZI's that Vector Arms is producing today?

I would say they are "okay". The biggest problem is that they are built on Group Industries receivers, which are out of spec. They have to do a lot of work during assembly to overcome those basic problems in the receiver. They also heat treat the receivers, which MAY add some durability but also can cause alignment problems. The final issue is that they use some subcontracted parts that have been out of spec in the past. I haven't heard of problems in this area lately.

Summary: generally a good, reliable gun. Often times have some problems when new that need to be tweaked but run fine after that. Not the quality of an original IMI gun but a very serviceable weapon.

I own both IMI/Action arms as well as Vector and have to admit, they aren't 100% replicas (as Dave mentions), but they will work well out of the box most of the time. Also, they have stopped heat treating their receivers (which makes theirs a little closer to the original).

That said, few firearm manufacturers have gone through the trouble to sell to Californians like Vector has.

There are always original IMI guns available on classified/auction sites. There's also a new manufacturer that's supposed to start selling UZIs this summer. No exact release date yet.

I am in the industry and was also at the SHOT Show and I cant find any information on this new manufacture. But if the workmanship/quality is as nice as you described and they stand behind their products. I will be sellling them for sure.

I purchased a Vector about a year ago and have only put a few rounds through it. This discussion has me concerned about my Uzi. Does anyone know the serial number range that Vector stopped heat treating the receivers? Also, I'm curious about which parts are out of spec.
Thanks..

One of the biggest problems Vector had was with out of spec recoil springs. That was quite a while ago and they seem to have that under control. If your gun is shooting properly then I won't worry about it.

I'm not sure if they stopped heat treating and if so, what the cutoff is. Why does it matter? I don't know if I'd be concerned about that one way or the other.

is yours a semi? just shoot it and (if it's a semi) chances are; heat treated or not won't matter.

you need to put more than a few rounds per year through it

I have a vector and I had a soft strike problem that they bent over backwards to make right at no cost to me
