Yeah I'm with you on the folder. Pulls beard hair out too - esp. shooting .45. ;)

I've gone retro and use the wood stock even if it's less bad-ass.

i have both a vector fullsize rr and ea converted m16 that also has an olympic 9mm upper

both are fun but the uzi is fired most as it is impossible to get singles in the 16 system when on auto and the uzi is simple to do

makes a difference in subgun matches

the oly system for 9mm is reliable and uses sten mags which are harder to load than uzi mags

i have 60 rd uzi mags built by bustoff and 57-62 rd stens too - real fun in dumps

So it just uses the pressure on the buffer tube spring to run and hold pressure? So it would be (in theroy) more reliable.

In theory maybe, but in practice you may have problems with overpowered and inconsisent ammo. You also get more fouling back in the action- the infamous "shit where it eats" x3.

Basically you are comparing apples and oranges- blowback exists as it is about as rudimentary as you can get with a semi-auto/full auto firearm. Direct gas impingement, i.e. the M16, exists because blowback cannot safely handle the pressures generated by a rifle power round. Pretty much any rifle that uses blowback is a delayed blowback, i.e. the roller locking method on the HK rifles.

I believe the French AAT-64 GPMG is one of the few weapons to use direct blowback with a full powered rifle round and it is infamous for bulged cases, stoppages, and in general being troublesome.

I got one of each. That settles it. I say go ahead and get a Colt AR 9mm since they are pretty rare. Maybe not rare but they sure didn't make a ton of them. :50_cal

Were there a couple of Olympic setups?? I have one (of course I haven't shot it yet) I was told it uses Glock mags. Got a bunch with it...

Welcome!! I'd say get both and shoot the heck out of'em..with a small modification to the left side of the mag you can use it in both firearms. See by posting you are in Bryan, TX...use to live in Liberty Hill and rember a bunch of ranges in driving distance of your area (if you make the day of it). Good luck and welcome!!

Thanks for the input guys! I ordered a RRA mid-length 9mm upper today for my pre-existing RRA lower, from Krista at RB Precision (very friendly and helpful).

I also ordered the VM Hytek magwell block from Brownell's, to use my UNMODIFIED Uzi mags.

Once all the parts are in, I'll get it photographed and post some cool pics here in a week or so.

Yeah!!! A new AR that I can actually shoot (at our indoor, no rifle-caliber range).

Glad to hear you got the parts coming. Keep in mind that you may need to do a bit of filing & sanding to make the mag block accept all of your mags.

Excellent mkellet, glad to hear you finally took the plunge.

Pistol caliber Ar's rock, especially when you can shoot your AR indoors on them really, really cold days! :D

Good choice on the AR platform. I'm STILL waiting on my RRA upper to get in.:( But I think it will be here soon.

Anyway, I've shot both s/a and f/A Uzi's and AR's and M16's and while i REALLY like both, I like the AR a little better.

AR is lighter (as long as you dont add a bunch of crap to it)
ergo is a little better,
and you can swap uppers and go back to rifle cal.

But of course I think the best answer here is.............

GET BOTH!:D

(btw: its extremely difficult for me to read anything with that avatar of yours!!:shocked)

if you have a full automatic ar15 in 9mm .. you might have yourself a 9mm m16 ....

BUT YOU DONT HAVE YOURSELF ........... AN UZI ....
