Buy now. In my estimation they will never be as cheap as they are now -- at least in my lifetime. Buy now, even if it does cost you investing in a new diamond ring for the wife (my second MG cost me a new ring (same wife)). But even considering the diamond, I have more than doubled the value of the investments even though I have sold none. :firingak

Likewise I am a late bloomer- Amphibian tried to get me to buy 2-3 years ago when a decent SMG could be had for about 1500-3000 depending on model.....THAT seemed outrageous then. I finally took the plunge last week. A registered receiver IMI for $6000. HUGE decision and a lot of money to plunk down, BUT...quick research on the net and as posted above shows it may already appreciated $500 and I have not even received the Form 4 from the dealer. :) Whether I sell it and Cash out, remains to be seen....I probably NEVER will, but at least on a financial statement....UZI = maybe $10,000-$15,000...who knows

Darn sure the wife's furniture that we paid $6,000 for is worth only about $200 at a yeard sale. :(

Given the funds...I'm buying all I can afford!!!!

So by now you might be thinking that investment may or may not be the best argument. Thus, you need to consider your alternative arguments.

Remember, it is easier to work on one MG at a time so focus only on convincing her of buying the first one right now. Assuming you don't have one of the following hobbies, remind the wife that it is no more expensive than:

- a motorcycle
- a SeaDoo or boat
- a sports car
- a snowmobile
- gambling
- season tickets to any professional sport

or any other hobby that other guys have. Good luck!

Here you go!

There is a guy named Greg XXXXXXXXowski who posts over on subguns who has a machine gun price guide that goes way, way back. I think that is what you are looking for if I am hearing you right. I think it is $5 for the current issue and $1 for old issues. They are made up 4X per year.

If it is at all possible do not use the arguement that machineguns are a great investment. If you have something to sell to raise the funds, by all means do so. Giving your wive the "invesment" line will only plant the idea in her head that it will absolutely be sold in the future for a financial gain. Usually against your will. As others have stated through out this thread, wives will ask you to sell your toys because you "need" new living room furniture (or whatever is needed to make the environment around her perfect for her) and your great investment will be the perfect way to fund that new furniture.

Hey Timgunfreak - aren't you the guy who watched the Australian police toss your UZI into a furnace? But you can buy 1928A1s for $75 ? How does it work "down there " ?

That buyback only was for semi auto pistols, MG's, for now anyway, can he held on a collectors license if they are deactivated (barrel plugged), and its not hard for a barrel to be changed eg Uzis, as for the Thompsons, there was a salvage done on a deep waterhole here in 1992, it was used as a dumping ground by the US in WW2 (do a yahoo search under Archerfield salvage), thats were my Thompson came from, dont let the 40+ years under freshwater fool you that the guns were stuffed, the water was so deep there was no oxygen, and therefore no rust, just minor pitting.

I didn't have to convince my wife that the RR Uzi we bought last September (4500) was a good investment, SHE convinced ME. (welll, to be truthful it didn't take much convincing!).

She even paid for half of it!

We had been kind of knocking around the idea since before we were married last year, and were aware of the rapid price increases. She was at the dentist's office one day, and read the Forbe's article about the ten best investments. Number 3 was Class 3.

She came home that evening hell bent on buying an Uzi!

The fact that she is absolutley nuts about shooting F/A doesn't hurt, either! She even made me pick up one of the Emory cranks for our S/A 1919 so she could spend more of our retirement money on 308 rounds.

She has yet to give me grief about ANY firearms purchase, and there are no secrets in my house.

God, I love that woman!

Does anyone know where I can get a copy of Forbes discussing the investment of class III weapons? That would be just the ammo I need to push my wife over the edge. I have really been working her over.

Now the price is $7500. Assuming the market will support that price, my mini has already increased in value by $1000 !! And the Form 3 transfer is not even done !!!

I also just checked about half a dozen sites that I know still have (or had) some NIB minis. They all ranged from $7200 to $8000...

What really sucks is those pre-68 transferable IMI guns were between $75 and $150 when they came in. I think that's around $1,000 in today's money, but don't hold me to that. If US manufacturing is allowed again, all those $17 GI recievers can easily become machine guns selling for $500-$800, maybe less, when complete. Food for thought.

IMHO, that ain't never gonna happen. The idea that the AWB affects MGs is often misquoted in the press and by pro-ban people. They say that if the AWB is allowed to expire, it will make fully automatic weapons more prevalent, cheaper and generally more readily available to the bad guys. No politician is going to endorse this scenario.

The AWB has a chance of being beat because it had a 10 year self destruct built in. There is no such automatic expiration of the laws that forbade the manufacture of new machineguns that could be owned by private citizens. Someone would have to step up and get that law repealed.

Never gonna happen.

It is difficult to accept that what you are buying is often in reality a cheaply made piece of stamped sheet metal that had low manufacturing costs as a primary feature. Not true of all MGs - Thompson 1921s, MP5s - there are some real works of art. But many others - Grease Gun, AK47, MAC were very cheaply made. I would put the UZI somewhere in the middle - simple, reliable, robust, but still a sheet metal receiver.

The market value of FA weapons will forever be controlled by the laws of supply and demand. No one is ever going to open up the supply line and demand seems to have no end in sight...

You think an Uzi is bad? I bought an FNC sear and just got to see it in person at my dealer last week. The damn thing is a ten-cent piece of L-shaped metal with a small hole in one end.
