Hey guys, I am having lots of trouble with my 9mm Century Arms Uzi. This gun stove pipes and fails to feed constantly. I sent the gun back to be looked at and repaired as needed. I got the gun back with little explanation of repairs if there were any. I then took the gun to the range and tried it out, but had the same problems. Can anyone give me any advice other than to sell it. lol Thanks

Buy some NATO spec ammo - either WWB or ZQI just to establish a baseline with good ammo.
Make sure you are using good surplus mags.
Spend quality time reading through the maintenance section on the site - I find that tells me a lot about how things are 'supposed to be' which reveals things to check for and often the problems you are facing.

I am using reloads that I have been using for years on all my other weapons. The mag came with the gun so I am not sure if that could be the problem.

I'm having similar problems with mine - no stove pipes, but lots of FTF. The two most common problems are top cover clearance problems and extractor problems. When I first shot mine, I had a 20% failure rate. My top cover clearance was > .020. I've been able to bring it down to .015, but still got a 6% failure rate with that. Most recently, I tried a different top cover and had a 33% failure rate. I'm still working, bit by bit, to bring down the original top cover clearance closer to .010. I've also removed and scrubbed the extractor, and that seemed to help initially. If I still have FTF problems after I get my top cover down to .010, then I am going to try a new extractor. The step after that would be to remove the extra "lip" on the bolt face. Search the threats for Century and you will find some good pictures of what that needs to look like. Good luck!

Just because it works in your other guns DOES NOT mean it has enough poop to operate an UZI. Try some WWB or Federal and report back.

Probably a good chance it is just the ammo. I tried some lighter reloads I shoot typically in IDPA in my Vector and it wasn't a fan. The bolt is a big meaty piece of metal that has to move so it needs some oomph to get it done. Same deal with my Suomi, big heavy bolt, no likey weak ammo.

I've got some 9mm brass ready to load so I'm going to be experimenting here soon with some different powders to develop a good hot load for the Uzi.

I've been loading 147gr subs for my UZI SBR - the Glock and Colt 6951 will accept a mid-range load of 3.4grs of Titegroup, but for reliability in the UZI I run closer to the max - 3.6grs. Nice and quiet suppressed.

Ammo

I was answering the question about the ammo used, not trying to stick up for it. What ammo do you guys suggest? I have a few different types that I would like to get your opinion about. I have boxes of Magtech 9mm Luger 7,45g(115gr.) FMC(9A), also PMC Bronze 9mm Luger 115 FMJ, also Warhawk 9mm Luger 124gr. PRN. Any advice on these would be appreciated. Thanks.

After building three uzi and helping other with there uzi, ammo is never the issue, but you buy bad ammo, but since you reload your own ammo, I would rule out the ammo thing and lets hit the real issue, can you take pictures of your barrel in the receiver ????

WWB or ZQI is what I use to take ammo out of the equation, some shoot everything and some don't, these two are pretty reliable.

I would suggest getting a new recoil spring. That made a huge difference with my Uzi.

The easiest and least inexpensive way to diagnose what is wrong with your gun is to find someone in your area that owns an uzi(one that runs) and swap parts at the gun range until it works. Otherwise, you can buy a bolt/striker assembly, USA semi-sear, barrel, etc. and then you will practically have another gun. Before you do this, make sure your top cover gap is .005-.015.
