One of the members asked me for some bayonet photos. There wasn't much around here so I shot a few:

I was never a big fan of bayonets on uzis. I think there are few things in this world more stupid than putting a bayonet on a weapon that has an overall length of about 18 inches. That's kind of like having a lawnmower with a 3" blade on it.

Agreed. Still looks cool to me and probably would make Dianne Feinstein wet her pants.:D

If usefulness was the measure, we'd all have to quit whining about the loss of bayonet lugs on post ban guns because I doubt that many of us have real plans to use any bayonet. I just think they are cool and like having them for all of my guns.

Not true, you missed my point. A bayonet is a very effective weapon on just about any other military rifle in the world from any time period. Not so on the uzi because of it's short length. Think about it, if one were in combat and it came down to "afixing bayonets" I doubt anyone would want to have an uzi/bayonet combo going up against an Ak-47/bayonet combo. The adversary would have you solely by his superior overall length. Kind of like when a 8-year old kid is trying to punch you and all you have to do is hold on of your hands on top of his head and lock your elbow. The kid will swing both his arms like he's Mike Tyson and never make contact because his arms are about a foot too short.

A bayonet on an uzi is like having a knife with a long handle.

The short length of the Uzi would be a disadvantage if bayonet fighting were conducted like a jousting match - but I'm not so sure that often happens in real life. To me, it seems a bayonet on the Uzi would be most advantagous in keeping back a crowds threatening to overrun you and the last level of force before firing. Also, if working in clearing a building, a shorter weapon would be easier to turn and manage around corners, denying an adversary the use of greater leverage in disarming you than he would have if you carried a longer rifle and bayonet combination. Of course, in a different situation the shortness of the Uzi could make the bayonet less effective, but one must make do with what one has at the time of need.

well said, When the AW ban is no more,,,,,, I want to have a bayonet for all my firearms. With a little grinding and welding, the accessory rail on the Glock may soon have a letter opener!

Eventually you will run out of ammo... why not have some sort of defense other than throwing the Uzi at them.

If it came down to actually having to use a bayonet, I'm pretty sure I'd rather have one stuck on the end of a 50 round mag......Come to think of it, if it came down to having to use a 50 round mag, I'd probably rather have a bayonet stuck on the end of it too.

During WW2 less than 9%

of deaths were caused by bayonets and yes the days of bayonet charges is over. But it does have a good effect at crowd control.I liked Jimmy2 time saying "you missed my point".It's kind of fitting in a topic about bayonets:D
