mine is the SWD M11a1

it takes the plain ol M11/9 zytels.

I have 2 mags that came with it which have 380 stamped (melted?) into the back of them...maybe slightly tweeked factory feedlips.

I use a couple steel mags (RO? I have no idea who made them but they work).

I also have a can full of the ztyle m11/9 mags, but they are hit and miss (Lage feed lip kits would probably correct this, but I cant see buying that many at $5 (or how ever much each). Maybe if a 20 pack was on sale for cheap.

I should get some RO steel mags, BUT the 2 I got work, and I dont have enough ammo to shoot anyway (I need to reload the 1000 cases I have, but I'm slow....also need to size some cast bullets first).

Mic'd it once....1636 rpm. The timer only showed 13 shots (or something close), even though I dumped all 32. ;)

I prefer to pull off the stock. Sling is already in the box. and 1 hand F/A pistol style mag dump. Not accurate, but fast and fun.

Same as both of mine. SWD papered RPB guns. They work fantastically! I have one for sale on gunbroker right now. The small metal mags are more expensive and harder to find, but you don't have to worry about dropping and breaking them, or worrying that the feed lips will heat up too much and warp. In my opinion, a much better magazine. Sounds like you have enough to keep you going!

Now all you need is one of the old Desantis Mak-Skatter rigs and a trench coat!:m16s Ya know, for daily concealed carry!!!:roflmao

After our UT friend SubGunFan made me shoot his Baby Mac at UT2007 and UT 2008, I've dreamed of having my own!

So I finally found a NIB deal I couldn't pass up, so I paid up, and put the Form 4 in the mail yesterday for my in state transfer!

Now the wait begins... Any guesses? Will I have my approved Form back before May 20, so I can shoot it at UT2010?

In addition... Includes a Supressor for just the cost of my second $200 tax stamp! Also included - ammo, lots of mags, and 2 stocks (M10 and M11). Thanks to you guys who gave me feedback and guidance as I researched this Baby!

Wow I never realized how small these things are! Pretty cool! I know you don't have it yet, but is there any way you (or someone else here) could get a picture of one compared to a 1911?

My SWD m11-a1 uses the (rpb & ingram style) steel .380 mags

I've never seen a SWD M11a1 that uses the the smaller steel mags.Does it have any other markings?

M11-A1 Arrives --- 4 and 1/2 Months for Approval!

Well she's here... very nice... certainly appears to be NIB as stated, not a hint of anything inside, no scratches or scuffs...sweet.

Now in my next post, I need some guidance please.

Test fired her this AM... Initial feeding problems...

Here's a picture of what I see with loaded mag and bolt back... Significant feeding problems, FTF and FTE's.

Don't know if Baby Mac doesnt like flat nosed .380? Or is there a distance proble with mag to feed ramp? Or do the mag lips need tweaked for upward slant? Etc...

Thanks for any guidance.

CHECK THAT BUFFER!

Mine was a NIB M11A1/380 - and the buffers don't last in "NIB" status very long, crumbled like old dried cheese (which is what it might have been made of...).

Make sure you have a fresh buffer in there! And have fun!

Edit: Also; 20+ years since the factory test-fire left a scarf of rust where all the unburnt remnants soaked up moisture under the FCG. Had to pull all that out and clean it up on mine. Beware.

Good input...thanks. Forgot to add... new buffer installed and I've cleaned and lubed it top to bottom... hence my concern about feed ram, extraction, or ammo.

feed angle looks good, but stop using hollow point ammo. go with RN nose as was suggested earlier.

As stated above, round nose ammo. At around 1600 RPM's, everything happen very quickly in the small area before the round feeds into the barrel. Just the slightest wrong angle can hang you up. I found that flat nose or hollow points always jams. I had the same problem that you are having with round nose ammo, and polished the opening of the barrel chamber (by hand) with some 2,000 grit sand paper. It took some time, but I learned that the least invasive methods first, work best. If you take your time you will create a very smooth finish in the breach. Your projectiles will slide in effortlessly and you will not have any more FTF's. The feed angle in your picture looks fine. I had to tweak of the lips on some of my mags to get a correct angle for my gun. Hopefully you woun't have to do that. Try round nose first. If you still have failures to feed, try polishing the chamber. If you still have problems, inspect the barrel and bullet carefully to find out exactly where it is hanging up. There should be some tell tale marks somewhere. (From your picture, if you're still having problems, I'd bet it hits the top part of the rim of the chamber.) There could be other things wrong like, the mag could be set too high or too low. But I'll bet round nose ammo and polishing the chamber will solve your problem. Good luck, be safe, and have lots of fun.

Let me know if you just have to have one of those Desantis "Mak Skatter" carry rigs. I've got one that I'll part with. I'ts not cheap, but it's very nice.

UPDATE - Still problems, even with round nose ammo

The rounds are being pushed into the edge of the barrel... thereby pushing the bullet into the shell casing. Picture shows a few examples. The bullet tip, which wouldn't photgraph well, clearly shows the barrel edge indentation.

So the round is being pushed out of the mag, and not into the center of the ramp, but is hitting the edge of the barrel.

0331 (Greg) told me to get a dummy round and watch it slowly to see where the problem is, but I haven't got that far. But I'm guessing it hits right of center, and I'm not sure M1A's recommendation of sanding/polishing will address this yet since we're so far off.

My next effort is to try various mags, and see if all mags are a problem. There's very little play but a tiny bit of left-to-right wiggle.... is that normal?

Any other thoughts?

What would really increase reliability would be if someone made a hightened feed ramp similar to the semi auto uzi feed ramp. I had a Vector Uzi that had a stamped feed ramp that was causing me similar problems. I sent it back to Vector and they placed a larger milled ramp and it feed right up to the breech. It was 100% after that including HP's.

Try your other mags too before making any changes to the weapon. If you have a few mags that work, adjust the others to mimic the working pieces. If none work, start polishing the chamber. I use a felt bob with red rouge and a Dremel...turns whatever it touches into a mirror. :thumbs_up

Range Report After Polishing Barrel... Some Progress

I'll post a pic in another day or two, but the barrel edge is shiny and smooth all around... tried two mags with round nose.

One continue to NOT feed into the barrel... bullet is getting hung up on BOTTOM of barrel... seems to need to be higher, unless I'm missing something.

Another mag did better... sprayed a little then jammed.

Other than polishing barrel entrance all around, something else to polish there?

Should I tweak the mags somehow? I've cleaned several but not sure which... if round isn't comng out of mag high enough, could that be a spring problem?

Thanks for any feedback and insights,

db
