Anybody seen a threaded youth rifle for a reaonsable price? I want to teach my kids to shoot on a suppressed .22 bolt action, but having trouble finding one. I have an old C&R Romanian trainer .22 rifle with a short LOP that I am thinking of having threaded for a suppressor, but it may be collectible and I'm on the fence vs getting a new one. Want to keep it under $250 if possible.

16" and short stock pls.

Looking for recommendations and suggestions!

This might be a good option. I bought one of these for my daughter a few years back. They have threaded models now around $200’ish.

I got a deal awhile back on some Rock Island / Armscor bolt action youth gun that's been pretty good to me so far.

It's a "14Y" but I think it's been renamed the "YTA"

Well under your budget, and the iron sights are relatively tall, I shoot mine with a 1.5" OD can on it and can still (barely) see the sights over it.

Definitely above your $250 price range but the CZ Scout barrel comes factory threaded and is a very well made gun. Lists for $549 on CZ’s site but I would assume the real world street price is lower on it.

I just use 22 “quiet” ammo for teaching kids. I think it’s made by cci or auguila… I can’t recall right now. No ear pro needed. It feeds well in bolt action as it’s a full length 22LR and no suppressor is needed. I honestly don’t even think the suppressor can even make the ammo any quieter it’s already so quiet

This looks great! Can you remove those pads? Can you mount a scope?

Mines the older 14y with a wood stock. Not sure about the pads you mention.

It has a dovetail for a scope.

Hard to get a picture, but with the irons you can just make out the tip of the front sight even with a full size 9mm can on it.

Although now looking at it, this appears to have an 18" barrel on it so doesn't quite meet your criteria.

That helps narrow it down. Thanks Norinco.
RIA makes a fixed stock wood 51013 (looks discontinued)
RIA makes adjustable length stock 51168
Savage makes the Rascal

The CZ's (yes above your budget) are excellent guns. My brother has one (older non threaded model). It is a excellent rifle to carry into adulthood. Which depending on what your views are on things, me personally I would encourage you to save a little and not go with the cheap options. But rather something that will last a lifetime. 22's are generally small enough to shoot as well as grow into.
Depending on your kids age/size may impact your decision as well. If they are quite young, and you do plan on setting them up with a decent gun when they get to be a more gun manageable size. The cricket would be good to get their toes in the water.
Sorry to ramble, you have probably already thought about all of this already. My un asked opinion is also not to get "kids" guns in "fun" colors, as part of teaching them about weapons and safety is that guns are a serious tool that while fun to shoot, they do have one primary purpose.
The subsonic suggestion is good. You can also run 22 long which is very quiet out of bolt guns.

I have 3 boys, 2,3,5 yo. Right now I'm just looking for the very first one. I have that beautiful Romanian trainer that will be probably the second . 22 they shoot. Might get it threaded because why not? My family has lots of heritage guns. I learned to shotgun with a ladies Fox Sterlingworth 20ga SxS my grandfather earned by shoveling coal one summer. All of those old guns had whatever alterations the owner thought would help them shoot it better. But stock upgrades, cutts compensators, etc. Of course those were bought new and this one is already historical, so it still gives me pause.

Been there… played that game. I went with a cricket and some super quiet .22’s for a starter. The super quiet is, indeed, super quiet. My kids outgrew that stupid-fast, and moved on to a 10/22. One of the 10/22’s has an integral suppressor barrel, the other two are just slightly jealous. Either way, the one-at-a-time squirrel guns, dunno, maybe your kids are different. My kids blew past that pretty quick.

Now, for just dumb fun with the kids… airsoft guns with tracers. Full auto, safe blasting, just a hoot. We don’t shoot each other, just every other dang thing in the woods.

Heh… too young. First kid had to be taller than the box the cricket came in. That was like 3yrs old. She enjoyed the bullet case flipping out of the gun more than anything else.

I just bought the new-on-the-market Hammerli Force B1. I absolutely love it!
.22lr, with other calibers coming out soon (22 WMR, 17 HMR). The barrel can be switched out in seconds without tools!
Straight-pull bolt action.
Threaded 1/2-28.
Uses Ruger 10-22 magazines, it comes with 1 mag and three adapters for additional mags.
Uses 10-22 trigger groups, mine already has the Volquartsen trigger installed.
Needs a sight, only comes with a picatinny rail. A cheap red dot will do.
The "bad" part? US$ 600. Bad for your budget, but this is an awesome gun for the money.
