By “Mak91 adapter” does that mean that the Am-180 drum to AR 22lr adapter is for sale? If so I really need one
So I am trying to work out the details on how to bring these adapters to market. If there is someone with injected molding capabilities here that would like to partner on this I'm all ears. If not I could 3d print them like the prototypes. Just need a little time to sort things out.

That’s awesome.
I wasn’t able to get them to run in my two M16’s. I’ve got a BB adapter that works but the damn plastic feed tower keep separating from the aluminum base. I need to try cutting a S&W-15/22 mag tower like you did back in the day.
Has he (mak91) changed the tower angle? It look like pan mag sits level now, at least since I tried to help Mak91.

Mike played with lots of things to get the best performance. I just pulled triggers and reported back. His tower is more reliable than the S&W 15-22 mags and the A&D tower.

Yup, the pan sits level.After 3 years of development I found that if you send in enough matter and anti matter from opposite sides of tower at high speeds you can create a worm hole in side it that allows the rounds to perfectly transition from one end to the other no matter what the angle ;)

Go with the lowest cost tooling that will get you decent parts. If you can print the parts* that is by far the best way to go until you get an order for 10,000 from some distributor. You don't want to sink 10's to 100's of thousands of dollars in tooling only to have something come along and pull the rug out from under you. Look at the Akins Accelerator stock. If they had stayed with the Boyd made versions they wouldn't have lost the $100,000's of tooling money that they did.

*Many manufacturers are using what is called 'print farms' which are rows of 3D printers making the same parts over and over. Those machines are pretty cheap and they've gotten quite good and can print in decent materials now. I'm pretty sure that Lage is doing that with their Versa mag well modules.

Injection molding would only make good business sense if you are ready to mass produce many pieces. Even prototype tooling is going to be expensive. The print farm option is great way to get started, that is solid advice.

I like the replaceable feed lips and the new material is holding up quite well. I've got 2000+ rounds on them. Maybe 3D printing is the way to go.

I will make a video of the new awesome loader soon

With prototype injection molding dies that would have cost you at least $100,000.

AS Designs has been a great company inventing improvements on SS design. They make AR FCG for MP5 stuff and probably make one of the best nicest SS in the market. They also make trip designs for all the new 9mm platforms as well as the MAC upper DB9. They are not the cheapest but they are committed to SS innovation. I posted their trouble shooting guide when I updated this thread.

According to their presence at GOALS 2025 they will start selling guns with the SS installed and tested for many platforms. Their new ARC FIRE SS system for ARs that uses a traditional AR rotation selector. It looks very sturdy. Hers a video from the show.


The video has good information on other companies in the complete video. The new dual FM 9mm belt fed is SS compatible.

I just about have everything together to go test.

Here is my set up:

Anderson Upper and Lower
DNT Super safety, steel detent, trigger
Right to Bear dedicated 9" barrel, collared stainless bolt.
(FYI, patents on their "RTB" bolt are issued probably to CMMG - two guys in Missouri, 2013 date. So yeah, probably most RTB 22 conversion stuff is CMMG.)
CMMG bolt weight. (Note: the old weights and trips were stainless steel; the new one are steel with a black coated finish. Might wear differently?)
BoreBuddy Adjustable trip.
SilencerCo Sparrow suppressor.
BoreBuddy plug
in buffer tube.
Ammo will be CCI 36/40 gr. Minimags, Fed Champion bulk.

I'm going to run it unaltered with BlackDog drums and sticks first; this is the absolute base case / plain vanilla set up that would be most common I suspect.

I do have some questions for the trailblazers.

1. Given this set up, what would be the most common malfunctions and probable causes? Did you experience FTE, FTF or something else?

2. If you needed to adjust the BoreBuddy trip, which way did you go and why? (Advance the trip, retard the trip?).

3. Did you initially test with the non-adjustable CMMG antibounce weight, have issues, then find success with the BoreBuddy adjustable weight? I ask as a LOT of folks running these per StroBro's spreadsheet are running the BoreBuddy adjustable weight, and yet their weight combinations are all over the place. It makes me wonder if they really needed that adjustable weight.

4. Extractor and spring. Seems like a lot of folks are using hardened extractors and stronger springs. Is this driven by performance of the standard parts with the SS installed? I ask as I've been running standard CMMG extractors / springs on a FA M16A1, thousands of rounds, no issues.

I know there is some trial and error here but I'm trying to keep this simple and reliable without just adding expensive and possibly unnecessary components.

Its kinda like PCs. In the begining only those who understood how to make them were into them. In 1983 I was like what good is A PC NERD! Now it's impossible to live without them.

1. Trigger over live round in the chamber, caused by bolt bounce. Many people mistakenly call this "light primer strike." Solution, seek balance in a dynamic "dead blow" bolt weight.

2. I removed the adjustment screw, and locktight the attachment screw.

3. I tried the adjustable BB weight with all combinations of weights in the pack but settled on the CMMG Solid Stainless Full Auto bolt weight which works well with all barrel lengths. If the bolt weight does not rattle, it's not dynamic and will not stop bolt bounce. The empty steel BB weight, weighs the same as the solid CMMG, 1.25oz. The way the BB weight is, it needs to have two parts pinned together. I personally liked the 1 piece design of the CMMG. The solid stainless FA CMMG has less surface area sliding on the bolt plate and rattles more. It rides on short legs and has a key that fits a notch in the back of the bolt guide. If one uses the CMMG bolt weight, the use of the BB buffers is not possible because the BB buffers lock into that notch. The BB steel bolt is not as dynamic. I even experimented by removing material from of the BB weight to make it as long as the CMMG weight but it still was not as functional.

4. I have not needed to add/change any additional springs, FP or extractors. The BB firing pin actually has a crescent shaped FP. It takes more energy to deform the brass. I like the CMMG 22LR FP system. But I did buy a replaceable kit from CMMG because my firing pin spring broke in the 5K rds range.

If someone wanted the cheapest recipe for what I have done, this is what I've found:

Anderson pistol lower

Right To Bear complete 9” dedicated upper with CMMG 22LR dedicated BCG

CMMG solid stainless steel FA bolt weight, sold as a kit with FA trip. The FA trip is not usable with SS.

GMR Super Safety

Bore Buddy adjustable SS trip

Bore Buddy buffer pressure plug

CCI MM 40gr RN

Optional upgrade: Bore Buddy dedicated ambi 22LR charging handle

I do want to add some warnings:

1. I like the S&W 15-22 mags but they require a ARcatch22 clip to be used on the front of the magwell for a typical AR15 lower. I once used the Better-Mag for the15-22 mags but it cause more problems with fouling. With out it, I loose LRBHO. The current batch of freshly made 15-22 mags has problems. Multiple post have reported poor manufacturing defects and have given the newer 15-22 mags a bad name. I myself had to return several mags that either fell apart or would not fit the magwell.

I am currently testing BDM 32 rd metal feed lip mags. So far so good. The 22LR feed lips seems to wear out first with CMMG SS ARs

2. Most of the SS makers are using a jig to modify mil-spec triggers. The back part of the triggers have too much material removed from the top edge. If there is no SS mode or SS mode stops, it probably related to that. I recommencement getting the the SS parts and modifying the trigger yourself. (Video above) Go slow. The cam should barely fit through the lower with only the trigger installed.

It's flawless suppressed or not. 16" has the SS trip and using all four stainless weights. 9" same way except the weights are four aluminum. The buffer plug is not needed it works either way. I have set up four other 16" upper the same way with RTB uppers and the weights and all feed 40 grain round nose any brand.The upgraded charging handle is nice as well. The 16" fired around 900 rounds before it needed to be cleaned and lubed. The two lowers used are a PWS and Bad Attitude Retro.

Bolt Bounce video

^^^ This shows the impact of the weights on bolt bounce. Very convincing.

It also address probably the primary reason for extractor wear; the bolt bouncing causes the extractor claw to wear / become damaged.

Here's a weight chart from Bore Buddy. Like Strobro, my CMMG solid weight is 1.2 ounces. I don't understand the last two columns; the "Lightweight" column is a mystery. The "Standard" appears to be the current Gen 4 weight given the configuration of internal weights to the left. Basically any internal weight will get you over 1.2 ounces and per the high speed video, that's probably desirable, although maybe overkill.

FYI and to save folks the trip to the website, the "L" and "S" probably mean "Large" and "Small"; the weight has two holes in it to house the weights, one hole smaller diameter than the other.

BB sells 3 different bolt weights, steel adjustable, AL adjustable and solid stainless. Lightweight applies to the AL.
