Took the subgun for a walkabout yesterday on the farm. Heard a group of pigs rutting about in the very thick undergrowth off a seismic trail. Waited 15 minutes before I got a shot. Purposely did a full mag dump. Got mom and 3 juveniles in the burst. Was pretty tickled. No it’s not the way I normally hunt being uber concerned about a clean kill but we are trying to remove these as pests. Anyway it definitely gives you an appreciation of the close range application in jungle type terrain. First time I shot an animal with it. The gun is so controllable and just eats ammo - I really like it. Three seconds isn’t much time to swing through much though. Yeh I know 6 to 9 was the mantra when I was in the army (infantry officer in 2ID and 101st) but I wanted to try the whole mag dump for grins. Now in an open field 6-9 bursts probably would have yielded a higher kill ratio.

Anyway thought I would share a story about real use and not collecting or ATF refs. You guys should endeavor to go to field with your pieces where and when legal.

Yep, I agree, smg’s and pigs are high on my fun factor, i posted something similar a couple years ago here, got flamed
If you live in rural Texas /Oklahoma, shooting pigs is the same as cockroaches. Ive got a 22lr Razorback, toasted several pigs with it. 40 grn 22, with about 18rds a second, a short burst is about 10 rounds, 400grns, 10 holes with 6in penetration, does the trick

Not sure why they flamed you but it’s not a game animal. 20 years ago we had none. I honestly bet we have over 400 to 500 on our ranch now. We have to put panel wire around all tge corn feeders to keep them from hoarding all the deer corn we feed over the winter. They hammer our food plots to the nub. Iview it as slaughter, not hunting.

Sinse you ran the gun dry with a mag dump, did you advance on their position with a bayonet?
I know you’ve got those skills..

There are dozens of you tube videos of people like Ted Nugent flying around Texas in little helicopters blasting pigs with NFA weapons.

In Oklahoma, you don’t even need a hunting license to shoot them on private land.

I remember reading that pigs arent game animals. I could've swore that I read that MGs were illegal, even for non-game animals.

I stand corrected.

All good sir. Lots of stuff is very ambiguous and definitely prudence dictates healthy skepticism before jumping in the lake.

Pretty sure its illegal here in GA as well.

I asked this question along with the question of hunting with a helicopter to a local DNR ranger and he thought I was joking.
