I was buying them for a while from a guy on line who would inspect every mag and rewrap them. I still got rust spots on 1/3rd of them.. the sterling mags have a major issue with rusting in the wrappers. not sure if its the type of wrapping or the mags themselves. if you buy 10 mags, expect 5 to have rust spots. I was reselling the mint ones for $99 and sold $4,000 worth making 100% markup on them. it seems like the mags are more plentiful right now than they were 3 years ago

the parts kit on GB is what I believe used to be the Sarges kit before they stopped selling them. I also think they reduced their price by $100 recently. its what I had my sterling made from. My barrel looked to be NOS. I bought one of these kits for a spare 8 months ago. it appeared to be the same as Sarges and the seller said he was the one who sold them to Sarges

IIRC, the mags are coated with black oxide. By itself black oxide is only mildly anti-corrosive. For it to be effective it needs to suck up oil or wax like a sponge. I think as the years go by the paper wrapper absorbs the oil and degrades the corrosion protection of the coating. So, it’s a combination of the coating and the wrapper that leads them to rust.
