I just purchased a friends Shrike contract at cost. He got in early and locked in at $2495.00. Did I screw up?

Well you do realize that the contracts in the eyes of Ares are not transferrable. They do not honor contract changes. Your friend will have to send in the money when the time comes and take delivery of it. Then he has to hand it over to you.

I'd say you did okay then.

Looks like they'll be shipping soon enough. A lot of people have been giving Ares a lot of flak about their delivery times but I give Geoff respect for fine tuning his product to make sure it works before he ships. I don't think he's been fully up front with his investors, but I hope it works for everyone in the end.

Depends if you believe you'll ever get it. I don't have much respect for what they've done. In February at the SHOT Show they were telling people 30 days. They were also not commenting on ATF approval. Now it's nearly June and they haven't shipped. They clearly lack engineering skills, business skills, or both.

If you get it, and if it runs, and if it's ATF approved, you'll have a great time with it. Time will tell.

If anybody has told you they have paid for the Shrike in full I'd be very suspect. They only require a $1000.00 deposit and won't allow you to pay anymore than that untill delivery.

In most cases I'd agree 100%, but I predict that the Shrike will be trading at 5K+ within a few short weeks of the 1st deliveries.

You won't. If these ever come to market, 6-12 months later after the novelty wears off, I there will be plenty hitting the market, and they will be sold for less than the price of new.

The problem with the Shrike is that their is lots of initial demand, but hardly any long-term demand. So they will be in short supply for the first few months, but after that, they will have a hard time giving them away, unless they adjust the price down.

I have my doubts. Name something of this magnitude in this hobby were the price has went down. I predict a big price hike from ARSE when they actually have them in stock for delivery. Only time will tell for sure.

That was my point. If the price does not come down, they will be out of business in a few years. This was an exciting product in 1998, when it was $1795 (and promised in Spring of 1999), but then it went to $2495, then $3495, and as you say, probably $3995 if it ever comes out.

The market of course, is limited. It is a boring device for semi-auto, and the number of ful-auto enuthisasts is limited, and don't forget, $4K is a lot of money.

Civilian sales will not even compare to what a GOV'T CONTRACT will bring! Yes 4K is a lot but look at the other belt fed uppers that have come out.. BRP upper is around the 4K mark the Socom M11/9 upper is at the magical 4K mark also. Do I wish it would be lower? Who wouldn't but it's a specialty product that probably isn't cheap to manufacture.
