Why do reviews of suppressors mention it's capabilities when shooting wet? Who shoots wet in the real world ever?

Some suppressors like the older 45 cans (SWR HEMSII) need to be shot wet for hearing safe levels. Some suppressors and suppressor hosts combos have first round pop and water kills that. I still keep a nasal spray bottle w/ H2O in my range bag for that. These are nice because the bottle is leak proof and a single spray kills FRP without messy blowback.

Some older cans were designed to shoot wet.
Heavy grease was/is used

i've used everything but pee.

only cause, getting pee on my hands wouldn't bother me but getting my joint burnt by touching it on a hot gun while trying to piss down the barrel into the can would.

Shot wet maybe twice in my life. Didn't notice a difference worth the gunk.

Shooting wet is totally quieter. You can usually get a couple of mags worth of suppression before the ablative is shot out. Only pistol cans may be shot wet. Grease tends to smoke. I like wire-pulling gel, the wax-free kind. Using more than about 3-4mL can cause excessive back spatter. If you're already shooting subsonic ammo it substantially decreases the report.

I've heard stories about snake-eater SOF types pissing in their cans under hostile conditions but I'm not sure if I buy it. I've heard of operators spitting in their cans too, that might be a bit more believable.

My pee pee won't fit inside of even a large bore silencer. Would be like trying to fit a Volkswagen in a wheel barrow.

:)

Certain companies make suppressors designed to be used in environments with flammable materials.

one thing i use the most now other than dunking the whole thing into a deep mud puddle is a bottle of palmolive dish washing liquid, emptied to about 1/4 and the rest filled with water , shaken vigorously in an up and down motion held close to my body.

strawberry faygo was good but everything gets sticky and it attracts bees.
hi-temp bearing/marine grease is messy and tastes very bad.
shaving cream works well but you need an adapter to get deep into the can.
toothpaste - just as messy as grease but tastes better when you get residue in your mouth.
CLP or LAW = smoke generating device
5w-20 oil ok, but again messy and burnt oil reeks.

My comment was regarding the post about Military members (post referred to "snake eaters") pissing into their silencers.
I'm not saying it has never happened, but it's common to use water from your canteen if you don't have heavy grease.
Or at least that's my experience.
Who knows what the younger guys are doing these days, or maybe they have access to cans that don't need to be wet at all

Interesting comments! I saw a movie "When We Were Soldiers" and I have heard of GI's that piss'ed on machine gun barrels to cool them off, but I have never heard of pissing on a can or suppressor. I have heard of shooting one while "wet'. Tis normally while the suppressor is filled with "oil" or some kind of lubricant. I do know for a fact that I have fired a 9MM Suppressor and the first shot was louder than the second...had to do with the heat or the expelled gases. I can see if you submerged your suppressor in some kind of liquid, like oil, where it would be very quiet. Maybe water, but not the best liquid. Best idea is to find a round that is subsonic...like 45 ACP. It is Hollywood quiet!
