Semi auto build safety concerns

So now that my full size build is done, I realize it is capable of firing out of battery. After some research I’ve learned there is a mechanism I don’t have that prevents this situation. I’ve seen it called a “dog” . Can someone here please explain what this little wedge shaped piece is called, how it works and where I can find it to purchase? Or please link me to a thread. I’d like to avoid a half chambered case exploding near my face. Thank you

Lots of semi uzis do not have the out of battery firing pin safety, and lots of people remove them. I would not worry about it

usbarrelshrouds I believe has the dog but you'll paying 14 bucks for shipping for a 1.50 piece unless you grab something else.

Like what Mack said, I wouldn't worry about it if I were you, they really aren't that necessary for SA Uzi builds. They have them in stock on usbarrelshrouds for $6.99, if you really wanna buy it. Numrich used to have them awhile ago but those are out of stock.

Looking at it though, you can probably build one yourself if you wanted to. Looks like it's just a flat piece of 9 gauge steel cut into a simple shape...... with a hole in it.

Simple dremel work if you ask me ;)

I will say this.. I recently purchased a Mckay bolt assy just for this reason. I had previously had my build assembled using one of the UC9 style bolts from APEX, which are modified FA bolts without the blocking latch. I had an out of battery discharge during which debris hit the right lense of my glasses. No harm done to me nor the carbine but not something you want happening when family or friends are shooting it.

What type of bolt do you have? If it already has the machined slot for the safety, i would definitely pick one up. Why not reduce the risk of an out of battery discharge when it costs less than $15. You will need the latch and the latch spring. They are available from USbarrelshrouds as stated previously and also from IWI. IWI is way cheaper, same part. The latch and spring are both $4.99 and shipping is under $4 via 1st classs mail.

Exactly. I had a failure to feed and pulled the trigger on it. Luckily the round was still traveling upward so the rear of the case was down far enough the pin was not aligned with the primer.

I can’t remember which bolt I bought, it was from some site I can’t remember. It is a converted FA bolt and in the raw. It was stripped with machine work only. I’ll look into my emails and get back.

I once had an old Stevens 22 that fired without the breech fully closed; if I hadn't been wearing Shooting Glasses, I would have lost my Right Eye. I picked brass out of my face for a few weeks.

ALWAYS wear Eye Protection!
