I just got my self a IMI UZI type B and was think about making it a SBR. my question is can I just register the barrel (put all the info on the barrel) or do I do the gun its self.
the main reason is that if I want to sale it down the road,it would be easier to sale it as a NON-SBR then if it’s a SBR.
thanks for your time

You dont register the barrel, you register the gun. Its just the maker/ trust markings you can put on the barrel. Its been discussed plenty on here. Try a forum search or google search and you"ll find a thread with the atf info too.

The receiver is the registered part. Selling it later NOT as a SBR, only needs a letter sent to the ATF removing it from the registry.

Just a letter. You can keep your original barrel to put it back in the gun later if you want to return it back to a normal Title I gun.

To sell as NON-SBR, you MUST put a 16" barrel on it, then send a letter to ATF requesting it to be removed from registry. Remember, you will NOT get your $200 SBR tax back!

Thats what I did, put info on barrel so later on, if I ever sell it, I can simply put the 16 inch barrel back on. I put a stock on a M11, did the sbr gig on it and sold it. Letter to ATF was simple with a fairly quick return from them. Easy to do, I think the jeweler charged me less than $10 to put info on barrel.

to put a can on the 16" barrel you'll have to get it threaded first
for what you'll pay to get that done you might as well do a form 1 and SBR it first. The short barrel is cheap and you can buy it threaded

plus the Uzi looks kind of silly to start with with the 16" barrel
it's going to look really silly with a can on the end of that...

I'm in the process of getting form 1 approval for my Uzi and getting into polite arguments with my gun shop over engraving the barrel. They say must be receiver. Can someone tell me the difference between a mfg. of a firearm and a maker of a firearm?

BATFE doesn't actually remove the SBR from the registry. They "amend" the registry to show it's current status. That way they have a historical record of "all" of the changes that weapon has gone through. For instance "carbine to SBR to carbine".

My understanding is that the receiver is the registered part. Therefore, the name of your trust with city and state must be engraved on the receiver. I put my engraving on the underside of the receiver where the stock folds up.
