Call Bill Gray at Gray Laser in San Antonio. They've done nice work for me. http://www.graylaser.com/

Why does the barrel need to be marked? Its the recierver that is on the form 1.

Is it just a CYA type thing?

You may mark either the receiver or the barrel.

Learn something new everyday. Seems while the receiver is the registered part with the serial number on the paperwork you can put all the other info on either. Thanks, This is why I ask questions!

I've had Ryan at Orion Arms do all my engraving.

His work has always been excellent and turn around is fantastic.

He lists his lead time on his page, but I have never had it take as long as it says.

According to IDENT, I can't just engrave my barrel, it has to be on the reciever. Why did the guy at ATF tell me I could?, dont ya just love the ATF

Seems I read somewhere that the engraving had to be visible without disassembly? Any truth to this? Or perhaps disassembly would need to be defined better if that was the truth. What say yee?

The markings have to be visible without disassembling the gun. Tech Branch did tell me it was OK to mark the underside of the receiver behind the grip even if you have a wood quick change stock or a folding stock on it.
