Just wanted to share some information I received from SAAMI about caliber pressures for the conversions I sell.

9mm - 35,000psi (for comparison)
45acp - 27,000psi (for comparason)

40S&W - 35,000psi
10mm - 37,500psi
357SIG - 40,000psi (pretty HOT)

SAMMI considers the case properly supported if the bolt face is the same diameter (or larger) than the cartridge case head.

A ring or lip around the extractor groove of the case is not supporting the case but rather adds reliability to the feed and extraction of the cartridge, as is the case between a full auto bolt face (full ring) and a semi bolt face(partial ring)

Here's what I can add to that. I know the IMI UZI barrels are made for 9mm +P+ ammo and are reportedly pressure tested at ~50Kpsi. for that reason. I also know the barrel, when opened up to 45 can handle ~35Kpsi. I would therefore be pretty certain that an IMI barrel could handle the pressures of a 357sig without any problem since the case/bullet diameter is near identical. Since I also know that IMI made and tested and passed barrels using the 40S&W round for a government bid, I know that their barrels can handle that rounds pressures at that particular inner diameter. The only problem I can see, is that that particular contract that they were trying to get was for the FBI's subgun contract. The FBI had stated they preferred the 10mm cartridge if possible. IMI chose not to go with 10mm though, because they didn't feel the barrels could handle it over a lifetime nor could the weapon itself. That admission by IMI was one of the big reasons the US government decided to go with the H&K, since it was a stout enough weapon to handle that. If IMI doesn't feel that the UZI can handle the 10mm cartridge, then I would want to see some serious testing done by a legitimate and independent laboratory before I'd take the risk of trying it in my subgun with my life/health/safety on the line. And that's my :2cents worth. Karl.
