Registered bolt having issues

Recently I got a slotted Uzi bolt, it came with a vector gun however I wanted to use it in my Model A. So I cut the restrictor ring out of my model A so the bolt would fit and I went to give it a go. Out of the 5 mags I tried I was only able to dump 1 full mag. The other 4 I had a minimum of 3 failure to ejects. The spent brass either gets caught between the bolt and the side of the receiver on closing or the brass gets thrown back into the receiver and binds between the bolt and ejector. I doubt it’s the ammo as it’s Winchester white box 124grn and Aguila 124grn both of which I’ve had excellent luck with in semi. Any ideas as to what the issues could be?

Does the bolt work in the Vector gun? Make sure the bolt is not riding the ejector.

You know how they say hindsight is 20/20? Well I sold the vector while the bolt was still waiting transfer to me lol I did see a video of the vector running the bolt through it.

why would you cut the restrictor ring out? Aren't registered bolts designed to run with a ring?

I also assumed this also, however once I got mine in I realized it had only been slotted with nothing done to the face of the bolt to allow for the ring. It’s original host gun also had its ring cut out.

That kind of sounds like it was meant to stay "married" to the gun. Fingers crossed that you can get it running with your IMI.

That aside, I second checking the ejector. Is the extractor in good shape? Also, have you checked for any possible chamber roughness? It could easily be a combination of things.

My IMI registered receiver gun chokes on WWB.

Try hotter ammo first.

Then check the extractor.

When messing with my ejector I noticed a very small amount of front to back movement. Is this enough to cause problems? The gun runs like a top in semi so I never had thought to check it.

It might be, actually! The ejector should be 100% riveted tight, no movement.

Here, scroll down to "Failure to Eject".

...take a look at the ejector. It should be level, tight and pointing straight forward. It’s riveted to the bottom of the receiver and if it gets loose it won’t firmly strike the back of the fired case as the bolt recoils reward. To tighten a loose ejector, remove the grip frame from the gun, exposing the bottom of the rivet. With the top cover and bolt removed, turn the gun over and rest the head of the rivet on a support, then hammer the bottom of the rivet until the ejector is tight. Once it’s tight, install the bolt without the recoil spring and push the bolt forward and backward by hand. It should pass over the ejector without hitting it. Performing this check with the barrel and stock removed will give you a better view of the ejector clearance.

And, of course, don't forget to examine the extractor. They do get worn out/chipped and stop working reliably, leading to ejection issues.

I had actually read this exact article. I attempted to tighten up the ejector today. I hit the river until the ejector was right, went and shot and I only had 1 failure (only shot 1 mag). However upon disassembly I realized the ejector was just very slightly loose again. I guess I’ll attempt to get the rivet to stay tight. I think that will solve my problems. I also swapped out extractors and I didn’t notice any difference so I don’t think it’s relating to my extractor.

I had a loose ejector cause problems like that with my IMI model A/BG bolt setup. Tightened it up and it’s been good for long while now.
