;I have a Mckay receiver that I need to put some kind of finish on.

Obviously I would like to strip all the parts down and have the whole thing re parked to match, but time and money.

What do you guys recommend for a good durable finish. The gun will be shot, used, handled often so I expect it to wear and be worn.

Blued, blued w/spray over, bake on, or the local gun store does park jobs every so often(this is the route I probably do)?

thanks

I like DuraBake, I painted a Reciever their Parkerized color and it came out good and is pretty durable but the surface has to be roughed up a little for good adhesion.

Aluma-hyde from Brownells is about the best spray can finish I've ever used. I did a bunch of AK receivers with the stuff years ago and they've held up nicely.

If you have a compressor and paint gear I'd go with some sore of 2-part epoxy finish like DuraCoat or similar automotive epoxy primer.

Murrica, where else.
I used engine block paint on a Nordic +6 tube for one of my shotguns. It was like $10 and still doing great after many many rounds. High heat resistance, but for fa mag dump palooza I'm not sure if it would work. Sorry I can't remember the exact temp range. It sprayed really smoothe out of a shaker can and looks factory. If you're looking for low cost you might want to check it out. Got it at auto parts store.

On that, I was talking with the fine folks at DGR (Dean's Gun Restorations) about what their price would be for Parkerizing uzi receiver+parts. their initial estimate was going with their $40/lb rate on Parkerizing parts. I sent my completely stripped Mckay receiver over there with the Carbine I'm going to have them look through and will report back on what the cost for the receiver alone ends up being.

Parkerizing is the best "primer" for spray on finishes, the pores absorb the coating just like they do oil. I would get it professionally parked, tell them to leave it dry. Pick it up immediately and coat it, or see if the park guys can paint it too.

If parking is not an option, then at least abrasive blast the surface to get some "tooth" for the coating to stick.

The finish I use is GunKote, pretty much the original bake on gun finish. CeraKote has gotten some good reviews too, but from what I have read is a lot more difficult to get right. Moly-Resin is good too.

If using a non-baked on finish I would recommend plain old spraypaint in your favorite brand. It's gonna wear off, but so will all the room temp cure sprays and Rustoleum is a lot cheaper than any of the "gun paints". You will be touching it up a lot and it adds up!

Yes Sir agreed.
Parkerizing is the #1 way I want to go, but my local gun store subs it out and for a UZI receiver to be done it would cost $80. If I am going to spend that kind of money I will just build my own park setup. I already have an old stainless sink, gas turkey burners, etc. So all i have to do is get the chems.
And this way I can disassemble and do all the small parts, and do it right.
Thanks.

I was looking at the Laure Park kit. Your thoughts?
