My optics mount right at my ejection port, and “muzzle blast” killed my last optic. All sorts of crap built up on the lens, and cleaning it ended up killing the coatings so that I could no longer see the dot.

Do I just accept that it’s the cost of doing business and buy a cheap/disposable optic? Or is there a good mid-range solution that will not eat all my ammo money? I can’t be the only one who has this problem, right?

Starvingboy, it would be helpful to know what and how you're mounting said optic on...

Hah! Good point. It’s a BRP Stemple. Picatinny rail along the top of a tube gun. For those who attend the Ohio subgun match, it’s the really-Really long subgun.

Does it have any provisions for protecting the lens? My biggest problem is crud buildup from being so close to the ejection port on a blowback gun.

Have not used the holosun. My favorite dot is the sig romeo 5. Which looks just like the holosun mentioned.
If you have a 3d printer, you could print a small shield (like a flap that extends a inch or so over the ejection port or some such).

I like the Holosun Jake likes. The new side mounded battery means not loosing zero when changing batteries.

Another vote for the sig romeo5.
It also has shake awake.
I've bought 5 from this vendor over the last two years.
Last purchase was this Jan when I bought two with one order.
Both were still the older stock without the recall battery warning label.
My 1st one went on the Lage 556.
Still going good.
They used to be 50 each but last order went up by 5 bux.
Still a decent deal.

No affiliation with the vendor accept for multi purchases that all arrived and were NIB

There are various blast shield mounts for the optics on USPSA Open guns. They often aren’t all that big, but seem to make a difference in keeping the lens from getting so cruddy.

I wonder if you could find something similar to clamp to your rail, in front of the optic.

If you've got a picatinny rail, maybe you could make some kind of blast deflector. If it isn't too complex, you might be able to get someone to design and 3D print something for you.

I run some primary arms dot on a BRP stemple and do not have that issue. I mount it as far back on the rail as possible though

Can you fill me in on the “recall battery warning label”? Was there something wrong with these old units or the batteries therein?

They recalled the Romeo5 due to not having the proper child warning on the battery cover ( swallowing hazard)
Jjust having the battery in a zip lock baggie instead of a childproof package.
And no nasty chemical taste on the battery.

I mean it's part of a weapon system shouldn't it be deadly?

Thanks for the explanation. Just bought three for various range toys.

No problem I'm honored to help you spend your money. ( don't tell your wife I said that)
And once I reread the silly/stupid recall I bought two more.
I really don't need nanny warnings on my stuff me and all my kids made it through life without them and honestly I'd be a bit embarressed to have a child warning on my optic.

Might as well put a lead warning on each and every round.
