I have been longing for a mini Uzi for a couple of years now and after watching the prices for parts skyrocket, I am now considering buying a 9mm AR15. Now, I know next to nothing about the AR in that caliber, so which one would most of you prefer? Additionally, being that fully automatic weapons are out of my price range, either one of them will be semi-auto only.

Semi-auto or full-auto. I have had both in full-auto. I ran 9mm in the M16 with a 10.5" dedicated upper and modified UZI magazines. I had the bolt ramped as the blow back pistol caliber can hammer a RR in a way that is not good. Now I run only 9mm and .22 in the Mini and ONLY 5.56 in the 16.
In a SA AR15 I don't think the 9mm is much of an issue. In that case you can have 1 gun with both calibers. (But the Mini is so damn much fun to shoot!)

If you are funds restricted, the AR is a much more versatile platform.
If not, get both.

AR's are cheap now and parts will almost always be available for some time. Minis will never be cheaper. I have both and shoot the uzi more. I vote mini uzi. I shoot .22, 9mm, and .45acp in the mini uzi and all are fun.

Good Luck.

if you are funds restricted remember that UZI mags are $12 a pop, high quality 9mm AR mags are $40 a pop.

I have an AR and a SA mini and I shoot the mini way more .That gun is just so much fun for what it is and it has way more soul . AR platform is way more versatile but the mini is just cool ,fun and tear down is easy .Reminds me of working on my old Harleys !!

I'm sorry but I have never understood the allure of the AR platform in a pistol caliber.
If you want a rifle buy the AR or AK.
If you want a semi auto version of the hands down COOLEST subgun on the planet, get the Mini Uzi.
Disclaimer: I own a dozen each AR and AK rifles. But I think my Mini SMG (FA) is by far the funnest and coolest.
I totally concur with Cajun. Minis will dry up long before the supply of ARs ever will.

Yeah, I guess I drank the same KoolAid as shadeone? LOL

Let us know what you end up doing? And jeez! Post pics!!! :)

They both have potential for a good time.

If you go mini uzi, IMHO they look stupid with the 16" barrel, but as a pistol you will REALLY want a stock on it and to eventually SBR it.

The AR, I dont see any point of it being a fullsize 9mm rifle, so either a pistol or SBR assembly.

The 9mm AR-15's can be made to look pretty sweet if you get s dedicated lower, but you gotta get it out of your head it wont be an AR anymore....

random example of a nice looking 9mm dedicated lower ar-15 SBR

I have full size Uzi plus a 9 mm AR-15 upper receiver assembly and the now extinct VM-Hytech AR-15 platform adapter block which permits the use of unmodified Uzi mags in the AR platform. Not the cheapest route, but provides variety. Note, the VM-Hytech block I have, like many, is picky about mag size, so "big", as in width and fore-aft dimension, Uzi mags will not fit. Also the mag release is on the left side of the adapter block so the 'manual of arms' is not the conventional AR platform process, if that matters to you.

Best of luck with whatever you decide to pursue

I use a hahn adapter block in my AR and couldnt be happier. Uses colt smg or modufied uzi mags. Haven't gotten to bring the uzi home yet. Suppressed 9mm ar is an excellent shooter.

How about a full size UZI pistol with a sig arm brace. that would be cool.wouldn`t cost an arm and leg.just as much fun.
