So I see this on GB tonight. I know York made an open bolt Sten by taking machineguns and welding the selector in place. ATF declared all of them machineguns and shut down operations. Did anyone make a legal pre-82 non-York open bolt Sten or is this just an unregistered machinegun?

The issue with York Arms was that they took existing MG's and attempted to neuter them; the ATF did not like this. J.A.W.S. and RPB had similar issues around 82'-83' and the ATF proposed a new ruling in 1983.

They're are open bolt firearms that are legal, such as the French Gevarm .22 rifles and some others.

This STEN looks pretty junky. It has a semi-auto bolt installed, but who knows it this even shoots. I can't make out the markings, but it looks like a homebuild. It might be built correctly, or it could be a mess. I would not trust purchasing it.

I collect semi auto open bolts. It is my understanding that there were no legal Open bolt Sten guns produced.
