It isn't mentioned in the article, but he did so while working for Wayne Daniel of SWD. He also designed the semi-auto M11/Nine for Wayne.
George Dodson was the guy from Supp-R-on on (?) SP ? He didn't invent the DIAS, he was making pre '81 auto sears after 1981 and advertising them in SGN, complete with a certificate claiming pre 1981 manufacture.

I spoke with one of the agents who busted him. He got off with a light sentence claiming some mental issues, as I recall his defense was he didn't realize what year it was.

I met George at a gunshow once; kind of a seedy looking character. I showed him an "item" I was selling, after looking at it he said he wasn't interested and proceeded to wipe all his fingerprints off before handing it back to me in a rag.

So when he removes the disconnect on the ar15 he also modifies the hammer. What is the purpose of the hammer modification? I tried spotting the difference when he held the hammers up in the video, but the tape quality made it hard to tell.

A Colt SP1 semi spec hammer has a notch on the top, and the carrier has the area covering the rear of the firing pin milled away. If the hammer follows the notch catches on the firing pin as the bolt goes forward, jamming the bolt open and preventing a slamfire. With the hammer re-contoured to not catch it follows the carrier with enough force to slamfire the gun. It also helps to use commercial ammo, milspec ammo has harder primers to help eliminate slamfires. With some ammo even the free floating firing pin itself has had enough inertia to set them off. A friend brought a Daewoo over to test fire using his reloads. Gun was functioning fine but he got off a few doubles and triples due to soft primers. He changed brands and problem went away.

He copped a plea for 1 unlawful xfer of a MG.

He got screwed on the enhanced sentence for a Grease Gun though.
