Well stated on all points!I think one 2 day match is the best bang for the buck, from many different angles.
1.The organizers surely put a ton of work into hosting a match. This work is 100% doubled with two separate matches. Whereas the work is probably very similar just adding a day. I would worry about burnout on behalf of the organizers. It’s not like we have gobs of people willing to do this for the community.
2. The facility is shooing off their regular members when we are there. A two day match just kills one weekend vs two. I wouldn’t want us to get voted off the island by the range membership.
3. I worry that two separate matches might promote lower attendance at both matches. Using the old “ I am really too busy for this match, but by golly I will be at the next one” mentality. We almost lost the match altogether due to low attendance.
4. People drive from all over the country to get there. There’s a fair bit of planning and expense that goes into attending. I see the costs to the shooter going up by only a few meals and an extra night at the hotel. Whereas the cost absolutely double for two separate matches. It’s a “half the driving, twice the shooting” decision.
5. If people absolutely can’t stay for both days, come the day that fits your schedule better. And using the argument that i might make one match and not the other applied to one day or the other, see #1.
6. I think having basically 4 rounds would promote people to shoot more classes, it would for me. I know my old eyes will suck at iron sights, but it would still be a neat experience. But in a two session match, I pick the classes i like the most. Heck, maybe it would promote the creation of more classes.
In the end I think the most important opinion in this poll is that of the people doing the work. I just want to get to keep having fun with this. I would not be opposed to raising the cost per class. If making it a little more profitable helps, I am in strong support of that.
Thanks again for putting yourself out there and doing this for the community.
Thank you. Eloquent, non offensive/non abrasive speech is not my usual.Well stated on all points!
