New guy here with a few questions about the Norinco 320.

I acquired one and it came with a bubba wood stock that someone tried to alter. I'd like to just get the standard folding stock.

My main concern is the barrel. The barrel nut has a few spot welds. Can I legally remove those so I can take off the barrel? The barrel spring lock seems to be functional so I assume all I need is a new barrel nut if I'm worried about looks?

SBR... I believe, based on previous info, I can SBR this w/o a problem?

If SBR'ed, what are my barrel choices? Will original mil barrels slide right in?

Thanks.

Any additional comments concerning legally altering this is appreciated as I believe 922(r) applies to this rifle.

I got one.....

Start your research right Here... https://www.uzitalk.com/reference/pages/norinco.htm

This will answer many questions and educate you on some differences and similarities. You get the factory mag? It will have your serial # on it.
There are/were some odd legalities with this particular model. Again...Read the info in the library section and there is likely more if you play with the search settings here.

I hadn't read through that in a while. It looks like it's a little out of date now. At the very bottom it says that if you reduce the parts count you can put a folding stock on as long as it's welded open. That expired in 2004 with the AWB.

And yes, once you remove the three spot welds on the barrel nut, you can remove the barrel like normal. You can even continue using the factory barrel nut, just file it down a little to remove the spot weld spurs.

As for SBR'ing it, that would avoid having to deal with any issues regarding parts counts.

Thanks... the NFA and parts count issue was on my mind as well and my primary means to avoid any issues with 922(r).

No factory magazine unfortunately... but for $100 I'm not complaining. Basically a widow, not wanting to get involved with "selling guns", gave a few guns away and I ended up with the 320. Certainly a very nice score I'm realizing.

I test fired about fifty rounds today using IMI use/exc. condition 25-round mags from Sarco. For $11.95 each I found them to be a great buy. Zero feeding issues.

Wow, you made out like a bandit! That's a great deal, congrats.

Also good that you got a reliable one. I have two and they've been hit or miss (no pun intended). Accuracy is great, but reliability is sometimes a bit lacking. Mine work best with IMI 20rd mags.

Yes you can carefully cut the spot welds on the bbl nut.
Use a tiny cut off wheel on a dremel. ..... and good glasses.
Its like it was never welded.......so They say.

OK... fired a couple more mags w/o issue (I made a short malfunction thread) so not sure what's up with that.

Anyway, now I'm at a crossroads... DO I KEEP IT?

Now that I've shot it, ok, nothing special. I'm not a PPC kind of guy but before I spend more money (more mags and a rail for the top cover to mount and RDS, along with a tax stamp to SBR and GS costs to cut the barrel) I need to decide whether or not to keep it.

This is coming from a pathetic pcc fan, so my opinion is keep it. Which I have been a Uzi fan boy since I was a tot, so my opinion of them is probably a little more glowing then logic allows.
That being said, i would suggest keeping it for a bit, get your grips, and shoot it more before making a decision. I will say, shortening your barrel will make it feel like a completely different gun. You are sitting really good on how much you are into it, and you won't be able to find another at that price. 9mm is cheap to shoot, and the weight of the gun makes them smooth to shoot.

I'd say keep it. I'd also recommend you SBR it get a short threaded barrel and a suppressor. A suppressed UZI is a thing of beauty, and gives it a whole new feel.
