New Valmet Barrels - Any Interest?

I have been speaking with a well-known manufacturer who's looking into reproducing new Valmet replacement barrels. The high-quality U.S. made blanks would come from Douglas Barrels. You can have your choice of moly or stainless steel in 5.56, 7.62x39, or 5.45. Barrel lengths up to 24" are also a possibility. These barrels will NOT be chrome-lined (just like OEM Valmet) because that would necessitate at least 100 pre-orders first. The replacement barrels will fit the OEM Valmet trunnions, have the correct handguard threading, gas block profile, and have the correct barrel shoulder for proper handguard mounting. I have already supplied an NOS Valmet 7.62x39 barrel to the manufacturer to assure correct profiling and manufacturing specs.

No firm commitments are required at this time. If there is interest, there would need to be at least six firm orders to commence production. I will be purchasing at least three barrels at retail price if this project takes off. Final costs are estimated to be $350-385 per barrel, depending on material.

This is a great opportunity for:
• those who own a Valmet with a wornout, bent, or corroded barrel (hmm, anyone??? ;) )
• anyone looking to convert the caliber of their Valmet
• builders who want to create Valmet clones (chamber end threads can be turned down to fit a Galil/CNC Warrior receiver by request)

Btw, I am not profiting from this venture in any way. I just want an option for replacement barrels for our community since OEM Valmet ones are virtually nonexistent.

So who else here might be interested???

Hi Ruddiger - Do you know how close the Valmet profile is to a galil? This could open up a source for alternate caliber barrels for Galil (7.62x39 and 5.45). Would the 'well known manufacturer' be interested in galil barrels?

The profiles are very similar with the same gas port location. The handguard threads and barrel shoulders are the biggest difference, in addition to muzzle and breech threading. I do believe the manufacturer is also planning to produce Galil barrels in 7.62x39. But the question is whether there's any demand for Valmet ones, too. Somebody recently imported a bunch of NOS Valmet M76/62 handguards and was selling them on eBay, sturm, and gunbroker. Which means more opportunity for those wanting valmet clones, too.

Any .308 barrels going to be done?

It's possible... I'll check. But would probably require a .308 Valmet barrel to supply for specs. The 308s aren't like Galils, as the mags sit forward to the chamber, as opposed to shortening the trigger guard side.

Got a source for Valmet 308 bolts?

If you ever feel the urge to do something similar for Galil barrels I'd be in for a stainless 5.56 with 1/7" or 1/8" twist.

I'm interested in a .223 barrel. What is the barrel length going to be? I have a hunter I'd like to change barrels on so I'm not sure the M76 length. I'd love to see it have an 18.5" or longer barrel even if it means the blank is left long and unfinished at the muzzle end. Any interest in .223 Wylde? I'm also interested in a .308 barrel if that ever happens.

I think Jeff's still waiting for the sample Valmet blanks to arrive from Douglas (likely not their highest priority product these days). I have a couple builds waiting on these 7.62x39 barrels. I don't think any 5.45 samples were ordered.

Anybody who is firmly committed to purchasing a repro Valmet barrel chambered in 7.62x39, 5.56, or 5.45, please contact me now.
