How does one check the status change of a sample to see if it’s transferable. We have a couple of old mgs rentals in the shop. Idk how to check.
After opening click "add a firearm" look at the column on the far right under restrictions if there are none its "transferable"
If you choose Form 3 for transfer the lines will be color-coded, white-no restrictions, orange-Pre-May, red-post May, if you select Form 4 the lines will not be color-coded

I'd be real careful with all of this "color" status change thing. There is a post on machinegunboard where a postie was showing transferable. They tried to transfer it and it went back to postie a few days later.
Caveat Emptor.

I have a Brit L1A1 that "was" a post-sample that is now "transferable"
My 1972 dated MP5 is also now "transferable" AND C&R!
A status change from a post-sample to transferable?
That sounds like an error. I would seek further clarification on that.

Well I have a update !! I tried to transfer a known Pre86 MP5 dealer sample, that was purchased here on the forum for 55k and it was denied , and end the discussion about pre86 pd guns becoming transferable , this was the gun we could add to a form 4 and such . So buyers please be aware .

There are numerous reports of denied transfers
on these “new” transferables.

Lots of stories about guns that likely should be transferable in eforms (but aren’t) and others that perhaps shouldn’t be, but do allow a F4 to be started in eforms…

Not all pre-samples were eligible to be transferable. "Dealer Sample" is specifically NOT transferable.

Know before you go.

He said it came from a PD

1) Text you quoted clearly says "Dealer Sample".

2) Where it comes from (PD) does not matter. It has to not enter the country as a Dealer Sample.

Common language refers to any non-transferable MG as a "dealer sample", both pre and post 86.
So I don't place too much stock in the words we use to describe them. There are so many. "Pre-sample", "pre-may", "dealer sample", etc.

But I do agree that to qualify, it has to be brought in for a gov/le entity.
What I am curious about is what criteria are they using to make that determination.
Assuming for the sake of argument that the gun in question was a LE used gun, is it who actually did the importation or is it how many hands the gun in question passed through before the LE agency acquired it that disqualifies it as a "new transferable".

"Dealer Sample" (more correctly SALES SAMPLE) is not common language. It was a specific class of NFA after GCA68 banned NFA imports.

Criteria was whether it was import by a FFL for their sales inventory, or imported directly to LE.

Here is F3 approval for my SALES SAMPLE Uzi/MG:

We all talk about "the criteria" for a dealer sample to become transferable, but in reality, we don't know squat. Sure, Gun Jesus did a video where he explains everything like it's a fact, but unfortunately, he doesn't make ATF rules. Until the ATF does THEIR JOB and issues guidance in writing, we're all just grasping at straws. Very frustrating.

Someone at ATF may have found out that they are on the verge of making 4000 (? - number that gets bantered around based on what??) new transferables, and just decided "no, we're not going to do that after all". And "poof", just like that, it's gone. I hope that's not the case, but why else would they not issue a bulletin, or some other guidance? I guess time will tell. I do hope that this ends with something favorable!

Several dealers are reporting some post-samples changing to transferable. I have several postys, but the L1A1 was the only one that changed.
I am VERY skeptical, but have no plans to sell anything

I sent in a letter asking for the registration status on a pre-sample of mine, I'll report back if I get any reply.

The seller who had the MP5 bounce now has had a total of six come back denied even tho they “identified” as “trans-ferable” guess it isn’t what it seems and those big paydays are coming up bust. I’ll be curious to see what happens to those guns that Morphy’s sold…

I did to. They replied that they’ll let me know within ninety days.
