new Stainless Mini Carbine woes

Hey folks, anyone know if Vector started making Uzis that ARN'T built to IMI spec's? Just got a mini, after waiting for weeks for the stock to be made..& the barrel chamber is turned down to 0.577. Older IMI semi mini barrel wont fit, she's 0.625. There are other differences as well, an IMI semi trigger housing wont fit it, the housing on it is 0.085 wider & its tight.. & like having to take the top cover off to cock it..( cover binds a LOT).:cry

That is odd. Are you sure its a Vector? I've never heard of them making them in stainless.

Yes, its Vector / UPDATE

That is odd. Are you sure its a Vector? I've never heard of them making them in stainless.

Oh yes, It's Vector. emailed/ phoned them couple of times while waiting on stocks. I KNEW something was wrong, when I opened the box & unwraped teh barrel. Oh, new info.. Mic'd the restrictor band. it is 0.631-0.633. depending on how/where you measure it.) IMI barrel hits top of the band, ( chamber & top of band are almost flush. Yes, its a 19.75 semi mini barrel from years ago)when U install the supplied barrel,( that mics 0.577) their's daylight between the bottom of the barrel & the bottom of the ring. so with the thiness of the chamber & the gap, I'm even afraid to fire it as is, forget trying to fit an 19" imi barrel to it. This leads me to belive that either the Trunion or restrictor band(or both) is/are out of aligment. Still waiting for Vector to call me back. So for the time being, its a $1300+ wall hanger. I rember @ Knob Creek Vector was the lead dog . Its mega depressing.

UPDATE. more depressing.. got a laser setup used to check aligment of setup for machine tools. Has a expanding plug/collets.. accuraccy 0.0001. ( owe the tool maker lunch now) Set receiver in vice, then set laser in restrictor ring & marked spot on wall 50 feet away. Resetup with laser in barrel trunion. ( collets goto 2 inches. neat little toy.. ) marked spot.
well, lets say that their were TWO targets.

That's some pretty damn shoddy work for $1300! I'd definitely let them that is wasn't at all happy about that!

Are they making their own parts? Is that why they're so out of spec? There's still no excuse for the restrictor ring and trunnion to be misaligned.

No idea.. The Trunion is solid, no weight reducing cutouts. When I checked the restrictor ring & found it was in spec as far as size... WEll, I figure there no way this could've passed quailty control, the barrel HAD to be turned down to make it fit. The gap below the barrel tells me the trunnion is to high. Or the restrictor was cut to low before being welded on.. Or @ least that seems to be the simple logic. Vector hasn't called me back. I'm hoping it'll all get fixed. Again though, turning the barrel chamber down like that to make it "line up" . Letting it rest till 1st of month, if it doesnt get replaced or fixed then, I'll go a different route. Maybe, maybe, thats how they make them now. Depressing..

I bought a new Mini directly from them awhile back and the barrel was canted up several degrees. It was SO bad I couldn't put on a can or thread adapter. I finally noticed with the barrel nut screwed on their was very little clearance between the barrel and nut at the top and a whole bunch at the bottom instead of the barrel being centered inside the nut. I had to put the frame in a press and bend bottom middle in near the feed ramp to make the barrel not point up. The frame top has always been curved as well instead of straight across. Can't test fit top covers without bending them into u shape :)

Guess they "fixed" that problem by turning the barrel chamber down so much it makes up for the difference, huh..

Does vector have the original GI toolings? Seems like they're just punching out new receivers can't see how they can do that unless they have the stamping tools and dies. Also seems that it would be easier if they cooperate with Global or NDS for receivers, those GI receivers look really bad compared to those, as for the canted barrels, most Vectors seem to have that problem from day 1, presumably due to the out of spec GI stampings.

I'd be pissed if I payed $1300 for a uzi that I had to fix. Might as well just do a reweld. At least then i'd know the shit was straight!

Vector uses old Group Industries receiver shells they bought years ago. They cut down full size receivers to make their Minis.

Those GI receivers are pretty notorious for being out of spec. But if they're cutting them to make minis. Can't they take the time to fix'em. Jeez, might as well buy a century!

At least when I get my pistol together I'll know its straight. I'm doing the work myself!. Just waiting for some parts to come.
