Hi Guys, Ive been a 'lurker' on the forum for a while but finally joined.
I want to thank the administrators for having this forum in a time where its not politically correct!

Background - as a child of the 70's/80's (Im late 40's) I spent my youth reading every gun publication I could find, and although my interest in different types of firearms is diverse, I've always been drawn to the iconic ones of my generation.
My collection is basically German Sig, Early Glock, Series 70 Colt 1911, Beretta 92s, Walther PPK, HK P7....you get the idea. Whatever was considered sexy in 1985 :)

So moving forward a few years ago I decided to buy an UZI carbine, and register it as a Short-barrel rifle. I chose a Vecter 9mm for this build, and generally am happy with the quality for the price I paid. I stated using a surplus machinegun barrel for the SBR, and kept the carbine barrel full length.

First time a the range I noticed about every 5-6 rounds would not cycle properly using the short barrel. When I put the carbine barrel back on, it would run a little more reliably, but would still occasionally jam. I was using standard 115 gr FMJ brass ammo.

I examined the two barrels, and noticed a considerable difference in the feed ramps of the two barrels. The Vector carbine barrel had a much better (and polished) ramp, whereas the surplus short barrel was a rather crude, steep ramp.

Based on past reliability issues with 1911's I took the short barrel to a gunsmith and had the feedramp polished. Back at the range, had the same issues.

Through trial and error, I quickly discovered it had nothing to do with the feed ramp, and everything to do with the power of the ammunition I was using. Now when I fire any load that has higher pressures (Israeli Hirtenberg (sp?), or 9mm +P loads) it functions flawlessly. I don't think its the magazine springs, as I've tried numerous types of mags and all have the same issue.

So...(long story short) is there something else I can do to improve the reliability of Vector SBR? I have since had the factory carbine barrel cut to SBR length and crowned. I'm guessing that a longer barrel would inherently build more gas pressure and blowback would be more robust, but I really want the short barrels to be able to reliably cycle affordable 'standard' pressure 9mm ammunition.

Maybe something as simple as a recoli spring?

Sorry for the long post, but just wanted to give the whole picture. Again, thanks for the advice and support of this forum.

I have a Vector 9mm SBR, running 100% with standard ammo, located in NW Georgia (ZIP code 30263). Depending where you are in AL, we could go to a range together and swap parts back and forth until finding the culprit.

Uzis need hot ammo to run. They will not run with Remington UMC, it is too light. Try some Federal Brass 9mm 100 or 200 round packs. I know Walmart sells it. If it does not run with that then you know you have a problem with your Uzi.

My Vector Uzi won't reliably cycle 115gr ammo. I have much better cycling running 124 gr ammo. I handload so I can fine tune my velocities to achieve the best cycling. Like BWE commented i too find that the Uzi's need some stout velocities (pressures) to fully cycle the bolt. One last issue I had was one of my mags is faulty and I get frequent FTF's . I can't spot any physical differences with this suspect mag, but it will consistently cause feeding problems.

Try using some 115 FMJ it’s the hottest 115 FMJ I’ve found so far it’s cheap and it works great in my full auto.

I use Winchester White Box and it runs fine. Even if it's not the recoil spring, it's nice to have a spare.

Purchased my Vector full size Uzi carbine in 2005 from Atlantic Firearms. The gun was having failure to feed issues, so I asked Vector for a new recoil spring. Since then it has run 100% with Winchester white box 115 gr ammo. I have a 16" barrel, a 10.2" barrel, and a 8.5" barrel for the gun which I SBR'd. All run equally well.

I can ditto on the hotter ammo. I had intermittent issues with my Vector semi auto and but never had much issue with NATO spec 9mm 124g ammo. So I then started to make my own, 124g Speer TMJ bullet with Power Pistol powder and it runs like a train on time. Can't think of one jam I had with my own ammo. Power Pistol powder seems to work good in this type of application. It works successfully in my Suomi M31 too.

To be honest that's all I run in my Vector SBR winchester white box 115 grain no problems ever.
