M11 7.62X54R upper

Well not really but think this would be a neat concept. :silly

A upper chambered in 7.62x54R and fed from DPM magazines. https://www.apexgunparts.com/machine-guns/light-machine-guns/dpm/dpm-dp28-47rd-pan-magazine-7-62x54r.html

The mags are readily available and cheap. Ammo is cheap for a full power rifle round. When I was at Knob Creek I seen a few large boxes of these mags for really cheap like $8-10 maybe. And that's when it hit me the idea of a LMG Mac conversion.

The concept would be similar to the lage uppers but instead of a carbine/rifle look it would be a LMG concept. Maybe a 20" barrel with long rail and bi-pod or a pintle mount. Imagine a DPM looking receiver with a AR style 16" handguard and a M11 receiver on the lower end with a short LOP wood stock. Sounds fun to me.

Ideas?
Thoughts?
Would you be interested in a LMG type conversion upper for your M11.

I would be interested. But I am sure that it wouldn't be cheap! x54 isn't as plentiful and cheap as it used to be!

I would encourage someone to make this as an upper but it doesn’t have any real application that Lage uppers don’t provide IMO. Not a need to have but it would be awesome to see.

No.. We need Richard to Focus on Belt Fed.

That should be the ultimate goal. But he needs to squeeze all the juice he can out of every version of upper he can. LMG, HMG, Anti Aircraft gun.

That got me thinking if someone was to make a MAC upper chambered in say 20mm would the upper be registered as a DD or lower?

A rifle cartridge such as the 7.62x54R would require a locking bolt mechanism
unlike the simple M10/M11 open bolt uppers.
Prob would need to be based on something like the PKM's two-lug rotating bolt

Prob way simpler to do a design based on 7.62x51 and just use existing/commodity bolts, barrels, etc.
from AR10s

The 11/15 locks....

yep, and from the pictures I've seen it appears to basically use
a tried and true AR15 bolt assembly (dunno - perhaps slightly modified on the back of the bolt carrier???) + AR barrel

My point was a design like this would want to leverage a proven locking mechanism + the mfg infrastructure
behind the AR10 to reduce costs rather than develop something custom from scratch...

Good related question to ask is why no 7.62x54R upper for the AR10 platform?
Answer: Rimmed cartridge and much longer cartridge OAL than the 308
Good discussion on it here:

10/10 would buy a lmg/hmg/anti aircraft gun upper. Even in semi-auto.
