Without a lengthy blow by blow, though that can be provided, I bought a subcaliber barrel from Luis that didn’t function or fit when I finally got my MK760. It was well made and he seemed very responsive so when I sent it back for adjustment I also sent payment for a 2nd barrel at the group buy price of $175. I had bought the 1st barrel just before the group buy for $200.

Anyway, it was promised back 2 months ago and for the last month I have been calling weekly to check on any progress. The last conversation I had with Luis was last week Wednesday, 5/3/06 at which time he promised to get back to me that day with a tracking number for a parcel he said was sent to me 2 weeks prior.

Since then he is not answering my phone calls nor returning messages or emails. I have always been polite, cordial and patient so I don’t understand why there is no response. It was my impression that from this forum that he was reputable. Can anyone offer any explanation or assistance? Has something happened to him? Or have I just kissed off $375?

Rats,

Give it a couple more days. Luis has a good reputation. I think part of the problem is that Luis is in Tx and the barrel machinist is somewhere else. The machinist guy still has my barrel. I think they are trying to get the forcing cone right, or whatever.

Jake

P.S. can someone PM me Luis' phone #? I'll give him a call, too.

Louis is a good guy. He will make it right or give you a refund. I think Jmacken37 hit it right on the head, his machinist is out of state and works at his pace. I am sure Louis will contact yo when everything is fixed

It would be nice if Luis would post an update here......... or on one of the other subcal barrel threads.

Update:
Talked to Luis this morning. He lost his phone and had to replace it so was out of touch for a few days. Told me that I should receive the barrels today and sure enough they arrived 2 hours later.
Top shape. Looking forward to trying them out tomorrow.
Luis is a good guy to do business with.

I got mine in the mail today. I'm going to shoot it this weekend. I'll post how it works as soon as I have 1000 rounds through it.

drdremel:

Do you know if the internals (chamber, forcing cone, bore) have been modified on your barrel? Do you have both a 20# and 13# recoil spring?

Please post your range testing report ASAP. If possible, test for both function and accuracy.

Thanks,

I'll see how it works out. I have a 20 pound spring, original spring, slowfire conversion with plastic and brass bolt weights to modify rate. The slow fire will safely handle 7.62x25 firing it at approx. the same rate as a stock 9mm 76. I'll let you know.

Well I shot my barrel. The recoil is hard and will certainly damage the rear of the receiver if I kept shooting. I was very troubled that this is what I got after 6 months wait. I'm going to contact luis and see what he is going to do about it. It is unusable. The only way it was safe to fire was with my slowfire conversion. It ran slower than a regular S&W76 with it.

drdremel (and others):

Thanks for your "range report". Just what I expected if your subcal barrel has not been modified. The hard (strong) recoil impulse is what I experienced with my Luis 76/760 subcal barrel before I sent it back to Luis for a refund (per Luis' request, and still waiting on the refund).

I wish to make a few statements here for the world to read. First and foremost, I still believe Luis will make good on his 76/760 subcal barrels. What I am concerned about (and possibly shared by other subcal barrel buyers) is the lack of communication on this board from Luis. Even though the subcal barrel purchase I made from Luis has been terminated, Luis has built a good reputation for selling quality subcal barrels for other types of SMGs. I hope Luis will respond soon to our questions and concerns about his 76/760 subcal barrels' current poor performance.

If you buyers are not pleased with the current function of your 76/760 subcal barrels, PLEASE contact Luis via email or phone. When you do contact Luis, please post your comments here, and ask Luis to post his comments here on UZITalk/S&W 76 Forum.
