Well, I was a mouse click away from dropping $1200 on an Arsenal SAM7 SF, but just couldn't bring myself to drop that much $$ on an AK. Someday, however, I will own one. :)

I ended up picking one up from a local officer who was looking to thin his collection.

It came with a XS front night sight, an ATI buffer, and two polish mags. He claimed he put a 100rds through it and I believe him.

Here she is, what do you think?

Thanks! Yep, she is a beauty. Almost too pretty to shoot. ;)

It is a stamped receiver. I am taking her to the range for the first time tonight.

Range Report:

It seems like Wolf ammo is a bit pricey right now ($255 per 1000 at my range....gouging perhaps?), so my buddy and I both bought a 100rds each and a Lula. I still only have the 2 polish mags, but they load real easy.

Function was 100% without one hiccup for 200rds of Wolf soft point ammo. I was a little bit dissapointed in my groups at 25yds (there were 1-3 inches between the holes!! *gasp!) after shooting my AR, but then again, it is an AK and not an AR. Is it even possible to make an AK shoot like an AR with Wolf ammo? I doubt it, but it might be fun to try. It currently has the stock single stage trigger which although has a ton of take up, is very smooth.

Overall I am very pleased with the craftsmanship and functionality of the rifle. I would not hesitate to recommend a Vector AK to anyone.

I got the same AK a few months ago now. Vector AK`s rock. As far as accuracy goes AK`s will never be as accurate as AR`s. But they`re accurate enough.

I gotta ask, the most I ever paid for Wolf 7.62x39 was $170, where did you get it for $255 from? I don`t mean to bust your stones but this Wolf ammo thing is really getting out of hand......

Either way good luck with your Vector UF, I`m looking to get a Vector AMD-65.....

The range was Classic Pistol in South Hampton just North of Philly where they quoted me $255 a case. Needless to say, I didn't purchase any. I am pretty pleased with the accuracy of my Ak. I was hitting a bowling pin at 100yds pretty consistently today at the range.

Is their anything special about the AMD-65? I have been eyeing them myself as they look pretty neat.

ammoman.com has 1000rds wolf 762 for 170, however currently they are out. But i called eric up and more is on the way really soon, it will still be 170-180 range,+ free shippin not that 250-300b.s. people are asking for it now.

and for you uzi and mac if you run wolf in them ammoman has 5000 rounds for $600, just blew over 1k in 9mm ammo! im ready for the summer!

Congrats on the new vector ak. I am really intrested in one as i an a big ak whore, now i think im gonna give them a call.
Also in your choice for skipping the Arsenal of Nv SAM7, yes they are pricey but i think you should get one down the line.....you should really look at the arsenal Milled reciever SAM5 its a ak that fires the .223 round. Most impressive gun i own, that using wolf .223 fires on par with ANY AR, if not better than most bushmasters, and the old sp1's.
i will also admit the wolf 762 when fired from an ak goes everywhere its really irregular ammo.

Surplus City has/had some Wolf 7.62x39 SP for $170. That ain`t great but its waaaay better than Classic Pistol $255 a case.

On the AMD-65 I always thought that it was a badazz looking AK. And from what I heard from people who have shot them, is that the AMD-65s have a really large muzzle flash and an obnoxious muzzle blast!

I look at them as the XM-177 of AKs!

Since I`ve had really good luck with my Vector UF I was going to try their AMD.

Damn nice.

Stamped or milled?

This AK has a stamped reciever. The Milled AK's have a milled slot into the reciever above the magwell extending towards the handguards about 1/2" wide and approx 2.0" long, 1/4" deep.

REPLY:You will sure be happy with the Arsenal Inc. made AK's. I have 2, 1 in 7.62X39 & 5.45X39. A buffer(thick) does help with accuracy and was proven in a test done by Shotgun News a while back on their Arsenal AK74 (5.45X39). Good Luck with the new Toy.

Thanks! I had an Arsenal SLR-95 (with the thumhole stock) a couple years ago, but sold it to a different buddy. It was a great little rifle.

How does the 5.45x39 compare to 7.62x39? More accurate? I am considering building one in 5.45 for my first "home build".
