This MP5F was custom built for me by TPM a few years ago to be as close a replica as possible to the real McCoy. The biggest challenge was to get the sling clip on the mag well exact. This ended up being a "one of a kind" by TPM due to the difficulty of the build, to get it all exact. To their credit they got it done and the result was beautiful! A couple iterations of the sling clip are shown below...

I think its time to get this thing out of the safe and shoot it!! Enjoy the pics.

F models are not one of a kind. They made one for me 2 years ago. Lots of other builders make F guns, as they have been around for nearly 20 years. Here is what Jim Schatz said of retrofitting an MP5 to MP5F in 2000:

With the exception of the dual sling eyelet that is welded to the front sight holder all of the other F model parts described above can be retrofitted into existing MP5’s without modification. All other parts and assembly groups, such as the magazines, sights, trigger groups, forearms, buttstocks and accessories, to include muzzle mounted accessories, are totally interchangeable with those of earlier full size MP5’s. Even the unmarked 100-degree locking piece for the MP5F model remains the same as that used in full size unsuppressed MP5’s previously.

Would love to see a pic of the sling clip on the mag well of your TPM to see that they repeated it and I will stand corrected. That would be good news.

Easy to do this on a flat for a clone... The challenge is to do this on an original HK94 host...

Cool. Built from 94s right? Show some pics if you don't mind.

Giving me the MP5 bug, guys!

Time to take the plunge! The MP5 is the standard of "smoothness" for FA subgun fire against which all others are measured. But I must admit that I have a soft spot for the Colt SMG or equivalent...

The Colts always felt "choppy", but it does have the same Manual of Arms as the M16/M4.
The MP5, OTOH, is the smoothest SMG I've ever shot

I agree. But the SMG can be made relatively smooth, especially if the "choppiness" you are referring is "trigger slap" due hammer hitting the disconnector under the force of direct blowback.

How to measure smoothness in FA, any ideas?

The cmmg delayed blowback uppers are supposedly smoother. Mine has never been fired full auto, so I wouldn't know.

Are they plug and play with the colt smg lowers?

While I like the "F" version of an MP5, I chose to go old school. I have had my Fleming RR PP MP5 since '87 and it still runs great. When I'm in the retro mood, I go from this:

SN150678.jpg

Using this:

SN150679.jpg

Into this:

SN150680.jpg

SN150681.jpg

The retro look brings a smile to everyone's face who shoots it.

Beautiful! Brings a smile to me just looking at the pics. Closer to the real McCoy than the F above (RR PP). And the retro wood puts it in a class by itself, thanks for sharing!!

By shooting them, I suppose

Yeah that's my method - side by side comparison of how they feel. But was wondering if anyone has an idea of how to measure in quantitative way. Only concepts I can think of are some kind of vibration measurement method, or since controllability is probably related to smoothness, target grouping numbers with mag dumps comparing subguns.

Something that operates like a seismograph should work.

Yes, some kind of accelerometer based system. I am looking into Human Vibration Measurement systems used in worker safety and product testing to see if they would work. In concept that should be an acceptable approach since felt smoothness should be quantifiable and also comparable between MGs as vibrations in the the body of the the shooter during FA fire.
