Lurker looking to buy first uzi. Please help with pro / con re: mini vs. full sized. Most interested in NFA, but may go semi in short term dependant on prices, FA later as I learn more and find the right deal. Must be folder / short barrel legal.

Thanks in advance :)

I've had several Full Size SMG's, now I have a MiniSMG, I know many will disagree, but I think the MiniSMG has considerly less muzzle rise, although you must treat it very "Agressively",i.e. short, small, fast. Just my 2 cents worth.

Just a word of advice, don't wait until later. In December the price of an UZI full size SMG was $2800, now it's $4000. That was what 5 months ago? The market changes quickly and the more you snooze, the more money you lose.

Considering how Vector is just about sold out of Minis, if you're going to get one of those GET IT NOW!!! Don't wait until tomorrow, don't wait until next week. When these things sell out, which should be this week, the prices will probably skyrocket close to $6k within a week.

:welcome wifi. I'm a full size lover here. One difference is the ROF from the full size to the mini. The full size is considerably slower. Whether you consider that good or bad is up to you. I prefer the slower ROF because I feel it is easier to control and saves a little ammo. It's also much easier to squeeze off shorter bursts in FA. It also has a slight weight advantage that helps with control. If you want the shorter barrel for either the full size UZI or the mini you will need either a full auto gun or a short barreled rifle. Since both require the same tax and same gov't. paperwork, you may as well go the FA route if you can afford it. And ALL FA guns can have short barrels and folder stocks. They aren't classified as a rifle, pistol, etc. hence they can't be affected by the AW ban. A short barreled rifle can be considered an AW so they are affected by the AW ban and must be pre-ban for the nasty AW features. Karl.

wifi, I went through the same decision. The full won out for a few BIG reasons... the .22lr kit, the .45 ACP kit, the QD fixed stock option, the vertical foregrip, & the ROF. As I wait for the paperwork on the UZI, I'm doing OK blazing through LOTS of ammo in .223, 7.62x39, and 9mm with my M16. If I REALLY feel I need a bullet hose, I'll pick up a MAC. JMHO -Z06:uzi

I have both. I will agree that the full size is more versatile but I do love the MINI.
I think the full size is too big for 9mm. I like running my full size in .45 ACP with the GG conversion.
I do have a vertical grip on my MINI and I'm working on modifying my bolt for slow fire.
I consistenly get doubles out of my MINI but I'm working on getting singles. Many don't understand why get a little SMG and then slow it down. Karl knows - its for SMG competitions. The MINI is currently too fast for competitions for my tastes.
Bottom line is get what you want. While it is possible to get the MINI to do what the full size does, it will require some custom work at this time.
MINI in .45 ACP was done before - custom
MINI in .40 SW done by IMI - see my thread in reference section.
MINI was done in 22lr - I spoke to Vector about it - somebody was using the semi full size 22lr kit. - Also a friend of mine has seen MINI IMI 22lr kits a LONG time ago.

OOOooh! I like that verticle grip. How did you get that to fit. I'd like to do that to my full size.

amphibian,
After seeing your mini, I will revise my plan. If I feel I need to get a bullet hose, I will DEFINITELY get the UZI Mini Bullet Hose!! That is W-A-Y cooler than a MAC!! ...again, JMHO:D :D :D

If you intend to *start* with a semi-auto & possibly go to a select-fire weapon... later ...the ONLY choice (IMHO) is the full-sized pre-ban IMI. The reason is that you will need a *registered bolt*... later w/ some nominal mods to your receiver. Registered bolts in the mini are extremely *problematic* in terms of reliability.

That is an expensive way to go these daZe! Just go for it, dude... buy a NEW Vector full-size smg w/ warranty! You won't regret it... later!

Thanks for all the info! After much research, decided a full size UZI SMG is the way to go due to slower ROF and future options / expandability.

So, since prices have gone through the roof, where to get a decent price on NIB or used Vector (with welded feed ramp)?

Been looking through some of the WTS and auction sites, but looking for any help :)

Post a WTB ad on www.sturmgewehr.com under the NFA section saying what you want. Finding one with a welded in feed ramp may be tough. You could always send it back to Vector to have it done for $50.

Expect to pay at least $4k
