Mg34 tripod question

I recently got a tripod for my mg34

and I am still fighting it out. What is the wing nut above the firing table and the bar on the side are for? Thank you for your help

The picture on the right is the housing for the trigger mechanism. It looks like a mount but it's not. I think there is a spring or two inside that returns the trigger
