Finally got my first sten transferred to my dealer. Its a new DLO MKII build that I think is unfired. How much play in the mag housing is acceptable? Mine has fair amount of wobble which doesn't usually affect function I'm told. Im thinking it would be easy fix to replace pawl with a larger modified one to take up some play? Anybody done this to theirs or has it ever been necessary?

It's not the pawl, it's the locking pin.

according to Laidler, the Indian solution was to use larger drill rod to replace the locking pin.

Just looked at my parts kit and took it apart. I see where pin goes all the way in to lock into receiver. I will look at mine at my dealer. Seems like just welding material onto the pin and filling it down to fit and to take up play would be any easy job. Could try another pin too to see about tolerances. Wonder if JB weld on the pin tip to fit it would hold up long term.

is there play in the mag housing "bushings" which the lock pin travels through? Or is it all in the tube side?

I will need to look more closely today or tomorrow when I get pick up forms. Maybe some slack in both? Obviously if it can be done adding diameter to pin would be best way to address it without altering either pin hole. I will let you know. Worse case I assume could send it off to competent smith to have pins welded and touched up if it is a concerning issue. Wonder if anybody has done this before? Obviously on a sten as long as the tube isn't bent pretty much anything is fixed relatively easily.

Played with it a bit. Honestly once I made sure pin was seated it seemed about the same as the wobble in my parts kit. I still think a little JB weld on the pin would reduce it. Something I will play with once I actually get it approved.

Could you find and cut a short piece of brass tube to epoxy over the end of the pin? Might have to turn down the pin a bit for the tube to fit over it. The key thing is to find some tubing that has an OD just under the ID of the receiver hole.

Yep. You drill out the hole with a bit that’s the same size as the drill rod. Drill bits wobble a little, so the result is a hole that’s just the right size for the new plunger.

Thanks for the replies. I’ll see how much if any affect it has on function and do one of the fixes mentioned if need be. Hopefully can test fire it at some point with my dealer before approval.
