Is anyone familiar with this sort of Mac11 takedown pin?

I got this on one of my M11-A1 .380 I got, but I'm not having a lot of luck disassembling. The screwheads are a little messed up from before I got it.

I'm guessing I am supposed to turn both sides counterclockwise to loosen it (it just spins the entire pin if I use the screwdriver on only one side, so I'm guessing one side is screwed into the other), but I'm not having a lot of luck. My other M11 .380 has a normal takedown pin. Anyone see this before?

Or two screws and a threaded sleeve. Yep, you have to hold one screw and unscrew the other, one will come out.

Had that setup on a double stamp baby Mac. Two screwdrivers needs to disassemble. Oil the threads up before you put it back together, or replace with a different style.

Thanks guys. I guess I'm going to have to cut a slot with a dremel on it to get it out because the screwhead is basically stripped on one side.

I out bubba'd the other bubba's home gunsmithing by using a metal file to make it fit a 10mm wrench. Scratched the heck out of my mac11 in the process of trying to take the screw out with various bad tool choices in the process, but whatever. Got the thing out!

mattnh was right, it was a binding post. I didn't even know the term for that before he told me what it was. I did the slimshady move on it and it busted free.

I'm available for cheap gunsmithing services to remove stripped screw heads if anyone needs their finish trashed.

I'll definitely oil the the mechanism up considerably before reattaching, and for safe measure I'll increase the size of the flats to make it easier to remove with my quality Husky gunsmithing tools. In an ideal world, I'd buy the proper replacement part but I know myself and I'm way too lazy to buy a replacement part until I am driven to absolute frustration by shoddy workarounds.

I recently bought one of Lage’s pin. I works so well, I don’t know why I hadn’t gotten one sooner! The ball fits between the upper and lower. It’s very secure, but easy to remove.

I also just got a Lage pin. I was using a KNS pin before, but that’s going in the spare parts bin now. I liked the KNS pin, but the Lage pin works so much better!

I tried the push button ball detent retention pin (as sold by KNS) but did not care for it for two reasons. One, it involves using essentially a three hand operation for installation or removal - holding the upper and lower aligned and together, depressing the pin button, and pushing the pin in or out. To make it a two hand operation, I have used a 3/8" dia. x 3/8" long cylindrical rare earth magnet to hold the pin button in. The other problem is that during operation, the pin tends to shift laterally and the balls get jammed which makes removal a more difficult operation.
I generally use a cinch pin as noted above, or the two piece pin that has the spring hook that extends through a round, central channel.

After shooting about 10K rounds of ammo through my M11/9, I lost parts of the OEM pin twice in the woods. It came apart during shooting. I replaced it with the Lage pin and it worked fine. I had the habit of griping the front of the receiver with my off hand and pushing the Lage pin out of the receiver. I lost 2 of the lage pins at the range after another 10K rounds.

I replaced the Lage pin with the KNS pin. It never came loose except once in 15K round because the internal pin unscrewed and it fell apart. KNS replaced it with a phone call. Both Lage and KNS have excellent CS.

I now have every pin ever made in my parts bin, including the OP's pin. I prefer the KNS pin. I have 3 of them, only because the finish wears off for pics. Users do not need three hands but they need three fingers and two hands. It requires no tools and is quick, but not as quick as the Lage. The KNS pin is not hard to remove and will only come out when you want it to.

The Lage and KNS are both great options over the OEM pin.

Wait a sec, i thought the lage pin was the KNS? Is the Lage pin just a spring loaded ball bearing?

Yes, the Lage pin has a spring loaded ball bearing. It just pushes out. With the KNS pin, you have to push a button while pushing the pin out of the receiver. It is definitely more secure. One time I had an issue with the internals of the KNS pin and couldn’t get the ball bearings to allow me to push the pin out of the receiver. Thought I was screwed. After toying with it for a while, it finally came out. Switched to the Lage pin after that.

I prefer my delrin pins with the oem hook. Thousands of rounds no egging. If you bend the hook to maintain tension they don’t come out. I’ll f you take them apart a lot, you will need to make sure there is tension. I have all styles as well. The kns is my least favorite. Difficult (for me anyway) to remove, and they fit pretty loose in my lowers. Loose will result in egging (no bueno).

Call me odd, but I like the oem 2 piece pin, you just press in the end of it with the bullet end of a 9mm cartridge and it comes out with relative ease, locks up very secure, never falls out when I don’t want it to and always comes out when I do

I'd have to agree with the above......I can always find something to manipulate the 2 piece.

Now I do have a fondness for military push the button type pins......I guess I need to do some shopping.....I'd like one of everything in the spare parts chest...Its almost time for a second as its getting a bit heavy. A rollaway tool box would work better.
